Honestly Kurt Ballou would have gotten St Anger to be a classic.

    Half joking here I think

He's not a god who can fix the nu-metal riffs and laughable lyrics tho. I'M MADLY IN ANGER WITH YOU.

They played "The Memory Remains" instead of "Creeping Death" last night so I'm over them

Been listening to the new Urn album all morning, for fans of German blackened thrash. Vox sound like early Sodom.

Oh shit, I didn't even know Exhumed had one cooking. Sick.

Oh lord. Well, you know that fucker /u/AveLucifer?

Pretty much his entire existence raises my blood pressure is what it's about, lol.

Ha! I immediately thought of him when you mentioned the sub. Yeah he's an asshole....and it's not even his schtick, that's just who he is. He is everything that is wrong with metal elitism.

No kidding. The dude's a prick to the point of being fascinating in how dedicated to it he is. He acts like the asshole nature IS a shtick, is the weirdest part, but no, that really is how he is. It's like picking up a lump of mud and washing it off and seeing it's actually an apple, but then biting into it and realizing nah it's actually full of dog shit. Especially since the dude strikes me as the type who, if he were not such a desperately edgy cynic, might actually be a pretty cool dude. But nah, he's not. And don't even get me started on his mystical power to smell when and where people are criticizing NS bands and immediately dash to his computer to bitch at you about it (the weirdest part being when I talked about that and he came at me over it in r/Deathcore, of all places) and the fact that he uses the word "tourist" unironically.

I probably shouldn't get so worked up over some random wangrod on the internet, but fuck me, he gets on my nerves, lol. It's refreshing to know I'm not the only one who can't stand him.

Aaaanywho, putting my salt shaker back in the cupboard, I've been obsessing over this today. I listened to it for the first time this morning and I think I listened to it about four or five times. I can't explain it but there's something so masterful about the songwriting here. It's brutal-death done 100% right. Matter of fact, I already ordered a copy from New Standard Elite - and I am going to pounce on that wall flag when it becomes available.

I'm too lazy to read through this guy's posts but i'm going to assume, from what I'm reading in this thread, that this is your garden variety TRVE KVLT nerd who hates anything even moderately popular and shits on bands who didn't release 17 cassette demos before releasing their debut LP on an upstart BM label no one's heard of.

Oi, South of Heaven and Seasons of the Abyss are solid records. Divine Intervention too.

South of Heaven is also Slayer's best album.

Divine Intervention is frustrating because I like the songs, but the production just feels so muffled and lifeless. Would be cool if they ever decided to remaster that one.

I'm gonna just go on record and admit that I'm a Slayer fanboy who doesn't hate anything they've done and enjoys all their albums on SOME level or another.

...Except for Undisputed Attitude because that album is pretty much useless.

UA is trash so I agree. DI has a charm to in my opinion, Paul's hardcore style drumming gives the music an edge that Dave couldn't give and the productions reminds me of 80's thrash.

Yeah I can see that. I don't HATE the production but it's always kinda left me underwhelmed. Though I know the same could almost be said for Hell Awaits and how cavernous it sounds. But to me, that's part of the "feel" of that record, like it was recorded in the caves of hell or something campy like that, ha.

But as for Undisputed Attitude, I feel like metal all-covers albums are almost never good. Like, it works when a folk, blues, or country singer does a tribute record but for whatever reason it's just not a concept that works out too well with metal imo.

I do like a good portion of that Hatebreed album For the Lions though. Shrug.

It also doesn't hurt that Dittohead is on DI, arguably one of the best thrash songs of the 90's.

I can see where your stereotyping is coming from though. Some of the best black metal sounds like it was recorded in a meth lab basement with a 4-track recorder. A lot of newer black metal sounds too polishe...so I guess that makes this site's true kvlt elitist asshole?

lol don't get me wrong, I love all that shit too, but I don't get my dick in a knot anytime someone speaks positively about Deafheaven or Zeal & Ardor. I do love me some Wolves In the Throne Room though, and that doesn't contradict my ability to enjoy Aura Noir or Nettlecarrier.

Still do not fuck with Liturgy though. Ugh. But that band's a whole other can of worms.

I quite like Undisputed Attitude, I just really like the loose playing punkiness to it. Though it is obviously not one of their best and is fairly disposable (but cover albums generally are).

Just to add to our Slayer talk, I do think they have one of the best live albums I've heard in Decade of Aggression.

Also I've never really checked out anything Slayer post God Hates Us All, does anyone have any recs on what's best out of those records?

Newest record is decent imo. Christ Illusion has a few solid songs, ditto World Painted Blood.

My philosophy is that I like what I like and at the end of the day if you don't like it, that's on you. I'm not going to live my life based upon what other people think. I love hearing recommendations and giving them to people but when it becomes "this album is better than this album...", that's where it ends. It's all subjective and I am nobody to tell anyone how to think and feel.

I thought Hell Awaits got a mention by someone and Reign in Blood definitely has been mentioned. I do agree that all 3 are very good though (with Reign being a masterpiece imo).

I'll just say I think Deafheaven and Zeal & Ardor put out mediocre, convoluted music and move on. I figure it doesn't hurt to share opinions as long as you don't put people down for having views that are different than yours. Especially when it comes to music. At the end of the day, it's all just sounds we expose ourselves to of a wide array of different varieties.

I also agree though about Liturgy. They're one wack-ass, black metal ripoff factory.

It goes to all areas of pop culture and I agree that opinions are fine and even passion but there is a fine line between that and preaching/criticism and it tends to get crossed more frequently than not. At the end of the day it's about respect.
