The new Metallica album might be their best since the mid-90s, but it's still a far, far cry from their first 5 albums.

Yeah, not even close. It's like the Black Album sped up to 125% percent with a focus on mid-tempo riffs and a desperate dash of Kill 'Em All. Barely above mediocre, I'd say.

I'm very selective with concerts I attend. I only see the best. Sweet brag.

Hard to really excite me enough unless something amazing comes along.

If I were going to a shit ton of shows I was mildly excited about then I'd plug it up

If I'm gonna go see Godspeed You or a gd Boards of Canada show or a Converge show, I will accept nothing less than to ravage my fucking ears instead of listening to muffled live music through a 10 ft seashell.

sounds like you've never used good earplugs in your life
since mine don't muffle the music at all
all they do is block out the ringing from the very high frequencies, the ones that are more dangerous to your hearing.

Definitely haven't. Don't think I've ever used ear plugs period. Maybe in a pool.

CVS sells good ones for cheap that are disposable. It's never a problem for me at venues with good sound, but at Converge this past weekend the sound wasn't great, so when I was wearing them everything sounded muddled. Then again I was also pretty close to the front so I'm sure that has an impact as well

ever since a black breath show in richmond like five years ago that gave me tinnitus so bad that my friend and I sat in silence for the hour drive back home because we were just so drained from LOUD NOISES, i've made it a point to wear concerts to every show I go to since.

shit, i still got awful tinnitus from pyrrhon when i saw them on sunday with earplugs. my ears were still ringing a bit this morning two days after the fact. i also probably would have died last year during sunn o))) without ear protection.

Wear ear plugs, dammit. It's not worth the annoyance in your later years. You'll end up like that dumb kid in Baby Driver and you don't want that.

Maybe it's time for me to give these legendary bands the time they deserve... I've always listened to random hits and an album here or there but never really listened.

For Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and anthrax give me the four must listen to albums and the order I should spin them. Not necessarily their four best but the four someone who wants to get into them should listen to.

    I would say for Metallica:
    1. Black Album
    2. Master of Puppets
    3. Ride the Lightning
    4. New album

That's a good intro into them.

    Megadeth:
    1. Rust in Peace
    2. Peace Sell...
    3. Thirteen
    4. Dystopia
I have hard time liking a lot of their records but these are probably a good way to get into them.

    Slayer:
You could listen to Reign in Blood and be good. They have a very consistent sound on all their records.

    Anthrax:
I pretty much like everything they put out so you can't go wrong. Some people don't like The Sound of White Noise but that's the first Anthrax record I ever heard so I am little attached to it.
