LOL new Rings of Saturn is out!

 

I'm listening to the new Make Them Suffer and it's not too bad. Apple Music calls them deathcore. So far from it. I would say it's a step above metalcore. Anyone else like them?

 

I'd never listened to them before, but I checked out the new album and liked it more than I would have expected. I may check out more of their stuff.

 

The new False EP is pretty good.

 

@swboyd thanks for turning me on to panopticon. Atmospheric black and black gaze or whatever are always perfect chill down music for me, if that makes any sense.

no problem, man. if you're digging stuff like panopticon that fuses folky influences into black metal, check out:

Nechochwen - West Virginian black metal with Native American influences.

Saor - Scottish black metal about the highlands. Bagpipes do make an appearance, and they're executed a lot better than anything Korn ever put out.

Falls of Rauros - From Maine. They're labelmates with Panopticon.

You guys really should check out that other thread. There are a ton of other recommendations in there and this stuff really fits better in there anyway.

 

I'm subscribed to the other thread too. I just like sharing recommendations, and it seemed situationally appropriate. :) Plus this thread is slightly more active.

New Trivium song:

It's not bad actually. The fact that this is the lead single for Trivium's eighth studio album is making me feel old as sin considering how much I used to jock Ascendancy like 10 or 11 years ago.

 

That thread would be more active if you posted things in there! Lol!

But I totally understand it fitting the situation while at the same time thinking that people in that thread may be able add more to the conversation.

Like I mentioned on the previous page, I set a collaborative Spotify playlist up for black metal. It looks like it didn't really get any traffic, but it's still there if people want to add to it:

Right now, it's just individual tracks from bands because I typically dig a sampler type vibe from playlists as opposed to it just being a dumping ground for albums that are good. I'm open to whatever though.

Well, add it in if you use Spotify. Like I said, this is supposed to be a collaborative playlist. Not just what I like. :)

 

Follow it, and you should be able to add to it like any other playlist on Spotify.

added a bunch too. straight black metal has never really resonated with me but I can get down with most of the offshoots

 

As long as it's loosely black metal, feel free to add it to the list. I've added a couple tracks from bands that might be considered genre hybrids - i.e., Aura Noir - the masters of blackened thrash.
