Of course this tour hits Chicago on Black Friday when I'm out of town. Thalia Hall would be a great venue to see this tour at.

Gatecreeper was absolutely LIT when I saw them play earlier this year with Nails. Their music is simplistic, but SO SO well done. And that guitar tone...ooooooof.

Honestly just download the 15-Year Killing Spree comp if you can find it. Like @theagentcoma mentioned, Tomb of the Mutilated is probably their most seminal album if you had to pick one, but Cannibal Corpse has changed their overall sound so little over their career that any of their 90s albums are going to be a solid choice. The Bleeding is my personal favorite.

Bloodthirst is a fantastic record as well. As is Kill, if only for the track "Make Them Suffer". Jesus christ, that track is a banger.

I've been dying to see Power Trip. With Gatecreeper and Cannibal, this is a no brainer.

Just listened to the newest Gatecreeper record and it's good but man are those vocals turned way down. It's funny because the odd man out on that bill is Cannibal Corpse.

Sick lineup, long live the HM-2

Guitarist of ERRA has his own side band, Ghost Atlas, and they have a new song out, "Cry Wolf"; it's in metalcore territory, but I'm including it here because of the sick solo

That's odd. Light The Torch is... Kind of a lame name, ngl.

I never really listened to Norma Jean until Polar Similiar came out last year. Quickly became one of my top 3 records of the year. Catching up on the rest of the discography has slowly but surely turned them into one of my favorites bands. So, so good.

I've only listened to their first 3 albums. Used to be so into them...guess I have to listen to them tonight

never could get into Norma Jean really. Maybe I should give them another go.

Also, VERY strange that Devil You Know is changing their name.

Random thoughts upon reading the last few posts in this thread:

    1. Bless The Martyr, Kiss The Child will always be one of the most legit metalcore releases from that era. I haven't really listened to recent Norma Jean so I can't comment on them further.

    2. I'm guessing the name change to Light the Torch is going to signal a drastic change in sound for them. Here's to hoping the new tunes don't suck.

    3. I really, really don't get the hype behind NeO. I really don't. Maybe I'm just becoming old and crotchety and not connecting with the prog music that the youths are pushing nowadays.

I think that hits the nail on the head for why that song doesn't connect with me. Longer prog metal like this, BTBAM, Opeth, and Dream Theater bores me for the most part now. The talent is clearly there, but the songwriting seems lacking.

Might need to shift this over to the unpopular music opinions thread.

^^This is the problem with a lot of prog bands or bands that really on technicality. Technical skill doesn't excuse poor songwriting.

Exactly why I can't stand Rings of Saturn. I mean that, and the highly likely possibility that they can't play their own music. I remember one video one of those guys posted where almost every instrument was clearly a GuitarPro 6 RSE patch.

RE: Devil You Know name change.

Seems like it was for legal reasons.

They're pretty on point live. It's sloppy music so it's not that hard to reproduce. When there's a million notes in a ten second span, you won't pick up on what's messed up.
