There are easily another 100 metal albums that are better than half of the records on that list.

 

So far, my favorites of the year include the following:

Lorna Shore (blackened tech-deathcore)
Shadow Of Intent (symphonic tech-deathcore)
Alestorm (folk metal)
Fit For An Autopsy (deathcore)
Tengger Cavalry (Mongolian folk metal)
The Arson Project (grind)
Aversions Crown (deathcore)
She Must Burn (blackened deathcore)

Also there are a slew of death and black metal releases from this year I have listened to and liked but not been blown away by enough to make my favorites list.

The new Death Fortress is good. Crazy that they released another album so soon after last year.

Bunch of potentially good new albums out today - Wildspeaker, Undergang, Goatwhore, Ex Eye, Municipal Waste. Get at it peeps.

 

House of Blues Dallas. Apparently the show wasn't selling all that well and since I buy tickets all the time, they sent me an email with comp tickets. (Maiden is playing at another venue in town, so maybe that hurt sales?!?!)

Yeah the new Goatwhore album is great

 

Revocation is fuckin sick. I really need to dig into their catalog more.

 

Jamey Jasta does a listening party for the Dying Fetus album on his podcast.

Trey Williams has to be one of the sickest drummers out there.

 

Their latest one is actually really good. Some people are down on their self-titled, but I really liked. Deathless is solid too.

Truth.

 

Dying Fetus has always been incredibly boring to me. Plus they seem to be edgy tryhards with their latest album, and that vibe rubs me the wrong way.

 

I personally think this new album is one of the best they have ever released. I also think they are great because they aren't pigeonholed into just Death Metal. They incorporate elements of hardcore and thrash as well. With a name like Dying Fetus of course people will think they are going to go for shock value but at the end of the day they make music that they like and know not everyone will jump on board.

 

I love a bunch of acts that have that shock value aspect (GWAR, Ghoul, etc.), but for some reason Dying Fetus has never done it for me. There's edgy done well, and then there's edgy that just feels silly and convoluted. Entitling an album as "Wrong One to Fuck With" and putting out a Christmas-themed crewneck like this are the latter to me:



I've also never been a huge fan of slam-oriented DM so I guess it really is just a matter of different tastes. Different strokes for different folks. *shrug*

 

Just to add to fuel to the fire, their deluxe preorder comes with a knife. Now that is just plain funny. Also:
