Brand new DevilDriver song is out And their new album called Strike & Kill will be released on July 10th
Saw Crowbar and Eyehategod last night. It was a fun show. The kids were going crazy for Crowbar to the point where my buddy and I were talking about it afterwards, and we came to the conclusion that we're both officially oldheads in how we talk about these things with each other. Didn't think I'd get to that point at 37, but here we fucking are.
Hell, I'm already feeling my age at 28. Fucking crazy to think about. Ironically I find that watching the music scene evolve is a unique way to mark the time as it were
I've been going to those types of metal shows for 20+ years, and I've never seen kids as rowdy for an oldhead band like they were for Crowbar. It was in the backroom of a brewpub here in Virginia Beach and kids were climbing on the barrels on stage and lingering too long on stage after crowdsurfing up there. Definitely a lot of young adults with main character syndrome. They definitely were able to get away with that stuff because it was a small venue with no barrier. I was at the back just watching all the chaos...like I said, it was a time.
I was just checking out the record, saw the name and did a triple take. Not sure of his resume (or if it's the same guy) but wasn't the dude from Through the Eyes of the Dead also named Nate Johnson?
No idea how he has fans defending him still. He had 4 decent to fantastic albums under his belt and those albums were good because of the band not him. Everything in his current band is boring weak shit at best to the worst "death metal" ever at worst.
The size of the venues for Acid bath / Crowbar / Eyehategod and the hype for the tour is amazing to me as ignorantly, I have no idea who any of those bands are or their impact. But it was wild to see that the 2400 cap venue next to me sold out months in advance and the pics / videos from the show make it look insane. Also, a young crowd?? for a band that hadn't been active in forever?? Honestly I do have a bit of FOMO for not getting involved and going. The busiest metal show I've ever seen at this particular venue.
Honestly, it takes a conscious effort to keep up and see new bands, but I'm glad that I at least try to. I'm 39 and I'm often on the older side, but as of yet, I have not felt completely out of place (and this goes for all genre's and shows and not just metal). It's definitely the newer indiepop type shit that I start to notice that most people my age aren't checking that stuff out live, but if I find a band I like, and they're touring near me, there's not much that would make me feel I couldn't / shouldn't go.
