I like Chaos AD the best because it incorporates more groove without the overt proto-nu-metal thing going on

  2. I'd even take late 00s - present Sepultura over Roots.

Probably a hot take here, but I've never really been a fan of Sepultura period.

Because there's just something about it that's never clicked for me? Idk man.

Fair enough. Just the first 15 seconds with that drum fill into that HUGE riff gets my blood flowing even after hearing it hundreds of times. To each their own though.

If anyone has showtime/on demand you really need to watch the Dio documentary titled Dreamers Never Die. Very very very good watch.

    THRASH METAL THRVSDAY YOU JABRONIS

First up we have some Chilean blackened thrash from Hellish. Full length actually comes out tomorrow. FFO: Deathhammer, Mayhemic

Next up is a personal fav, the first single from Scotland's Hellripper. New album comes out in February and I'm just gonna paste the blurb from Youtube: "The Nuckelavee - the first single to be taken from Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags – the new album of high octane melodic black/speed metal combined with sprawling, folklore-infused epics from Scotland’s Hellripper, due for release 17th February 2023 on Peaceville Records."

    FFO: Midnight, Toxic Holocaust

Lastly, for @buttsfamtbh we have some some Coroner, who really need no introduction. I was gonna post one song, but whatever the whole album rips. FFO: fuck off and listen dummy

Can't stop listening to the Spiritworld album. It's honestly pretty simplistic and the vocals are pretty monotone but what it does it does very well. Catchy as hell.

So I was trying to remember the name of a band that put out an amazing album a few years ago. I remember talking about it in this thread at some point, which prompted me to start at the beginning and just pretty much go through the whole thread. I'm up to about page 40, which is around the beginning of 2017 after we all posted our lists for 2016. What a different time.

I did end up finding the band/album:

    So many damn catchy riffs.

I'll post my 2016 list later and review it lol

So this was my 2016 list. I've added comments about how I feel towards these albums 6 years (holy hell) later.

    1. Eternal Champion - The Armor of Ire - Still one of my favorite albums. Made me fall in love with the genre. Their second album is just as good, if not better.
    2. Ripper - Experiment of Existence - Can't remember the last time I listened to this. It's not even on Spotify. Need to revisit.
    3. Blood Incantation - Starspawn - Just as good now as it was then. I've seen them 3 times since this post, and they never disappoint.
    4. Khemmis - Hunted - Honestly haven't thought about this band in awhile. I don't think I've even heard the latest album. However this album still rules and I need to listen to it again. Seen them once live as well.
    5. Obscura - Akroasis - One of the first albums I listened to that year and it stayed in my top 10. I have listened to at least half of it sometime in the past year? I remember not liking the next album as much.
    6. Sumerlands - Sumerlands - Good album, but the new one from this year is better in every way, especially with the new vocalist.
    7. Zhrine - Unortheta - This was a late addition to the list and my first real intro to Icelandic black metal. I think about it every once in awhile, and they haven't put out an album since. Seems like a good one to revisit.
    8. Chthe'ilist - Le Dernier Crepuscule - Incredible album that introduced me to cavernous death metal, which was a deep cavern that led me to a lot of good discoveries. Also haven't released anything since then except a 2 song EP. I need more from them. I can't ever remember how to spell their name either so searching for them is annoying lol
    9. Moonsorrow - Jumalten Aika - I remember I left this one off my list because I forgot about it but went back and added it. Fun pagan black metal, but nothing new from then since then.
    10. Lycus - Chasms - Funeral doom, this feels like an album I added just to have 10 because I remember very little about it. Haven't listened to the genre in ages.

    Honorable Mentions:

    Inverloch - don't remember much
Wretch - don't remember at all
    Vektor - fuck this guy
Inquisition - this is the one that sounds like a frog huh
Zao - didn't give it the attention it deserves
    Krypts - don't remember
Nails - got a lot of hype this year and I remember not liking it to be anti-hype but I don't remember a thing about it tbh
Sylvaine - I remember it being pretty and not much else
Ulcerate - ruled just like the follow up
    Vanhegld - don't remember
Wormrot - grindcore for people who don't like grindcore, or that's what I thought back then

    What a silly time.

My 2016 music tastes are massively nostalgic but deeply alien to me now. How long ago it was. Always makes me feel like "damn I am a completely different person now aren't I."
