I don’t know where else to ask this. On imperial triumphant’s song Merkerius Gilded, what is the sample that plays at 4:50? I know I’ve heard it before and it’s driving me crazy

You sure that is not just Kenny G?

I’m pretty sure it’s from something. I keep thinking of Evangelion when I hear it but I don’t think that’s right

  5. I don't think I've been in this thread all year. For no reason in particular, I haven't been listening to much metal much these days, but I'm gonna go through this thread for 2022 recs since I've always found good shit from y'all and I'm perpetually out of touch with the genre.

Starting in Jan and am already loving this Fit For An Autopsy song that was posted, so I'm gonna give that album a listen. Apparently I also missed that Carcass dropped an album last year. I loved Surgical Steel, so I def need to check that out.

You should check out Morgana Lefey, it’s been cited as an influence for EC and it’s like power influenced trash/groove metal

I saw Conjurer play first at a show with Municipal Waste, Napalm Death, Sick of it All, Revocation, Voivoid, Psycroptic, Take Offense and Skeletal Remains and they absolutely stole the show. Incredible live band.

Conjurer are cool and seem like they'd be a good time live.

    How are Khemmis and Wake?

lol I'll have moved to Texas by that point and it's not coming to San Antonio but it'll hit the other 3 big cities. Ah well, close enough to drive!

Haven't seen Wake but Khemmis put on a great show.

Found out the Austin date is while I'm in Punta Cana for a wedding, so now I'm just bumming myself out because Khemmis sounded really cool from what I checked out.

i think early thrash/death metal sepultura is much better than roots era

I always fell on the opposite end of that spectrum. POST Roots they have released very little I give a shit about but I find Roots such a fascinating piece of heavy metal history (especially the story of them working with indigenous musicians in Brazil to craft the sound) and general music history that I can never not love it.

Morbid Visions through Roots is an all time run, with Roots being the weakest (though still great) in my opinion

Roots inspired Nu Metal and Metallic Hardcore so it can’t be all that bad.
