are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

If Nate made a serious reply:

Nightmare Logic I could see making an argument for. Though compared to that list, it needs a bit more seasoning.

California Cursed hasn't even been out a year yet. Give it a few years to sink in and see if it still had the same impact.

We're talking about comparing some of the greatest thrash albums of all time that have had time to marinate and influence multiple generations of bands versus two really damn good releases from the last 3 years. I'm just sharing my opinion.

The initial part of that I never know with you half the time what's in jest and what's serious. I didn't mean anything with it. Lord knows you can apply the same criticism to my posting history.

I agree with you here. Drain is brand new. I'd throw Anthrax, Sepultura, & Possessed in there

both are amazing records that I believe will stand the test of time, but also agree that there is recency bias.

And, leaving off Sepultura is a sin.

might also throw in Testament, and yeah, I guess Among the Living if Anthrax gets a spot. I'd also (personally) I'd probably include Kill Em All and/or Ride the Lightning if Megadeth is allowed multiple spots.

It’s all subjective. Everyone’s list will be entirely different with some similarities of course.

With that being said: I sincerely believe NL and PT will leave a lasting impression on the metal scene for years to come. Drain on the other hand: time will tell, but I think it’s an important record.

So I tried not to do more than 2 per band.

Almost put the New Order at 10.

Not primarily thrash but Pantera also had their moments.

Far Beyond Driven is a top 3 metal record for me. Their run of Cowboys thru Trendkill rivals any run of the big 4

Power Trip and Exhoder would make my list if I made one.

Pantera has riffs for days but I never really considered them (or Exhorder) thrash.

Yep. Now you got me thinking about it and being a (sub)genre snob. Sodom, Destruction, Death Angel, Nuclear Assault, SOD... I dunno if any of those bands have a singular classic album but they all belong in the thrash convo.

I'd probably also throw Demolition Hammer, Cryptic Slaughter, Suicidal Tendencies, Coroner, Ripping Corpse, Aura Noir, and DRI on the shortlist if we're going to get into hybrid genres with thrash. Power Trip for sure would be there as well if we're talking discographies as a whole.

This list making is also reminding me there's a lot of stuff I need to take a deeper dive on since it's been a while since I've revisited any of the albums discussed here save Metallica's.

I’m mad surprised you put Peace Sells over Rust in Peace but I’m sure there’s a reason for it.

Pretty standard list if we're being honest. I might change a few things or limit one album per artist, but that's just me.

Instead of offering a slight variation, here are my favorites in no particular order:

    Megadeth - Rust in Peace
    Metallica - Ride the Lightning
    Sodom - Agent Orange
    Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
    Sepultura - Beneath the Remains
    Testament - The Legacy
    Forbidden - Twist Into Form
    Coroner - Mental Vortex
    Toxik - Think This
    Power Trip - Nightmare Logic

A few of those are interchangeable depending on the day. I've mentioned enough of these albums on here so many times over the years that I'm sure everyone knows half the list by now lol

Good call adding Forbidden and Coroner. It's hard to make a top 10 thrash list. There are so many classics

Reign In Blood, Ride the Lightning, and Rust In Peace would all have to be on mine. I would probably put Nightmare Logic on there too, fucking love that album.

I'd probably also have to include Voivod's Dimension Hatröss.
