Anyone else loving the new High On Fire?

 

After years of being obsessed with the first four albums, I’m starting to explore Danzig’s back catalogue after the dissolution of the original lineup.

Let me tell you folks, it’s been an absolute slog so far

 

I keep meaning to check out HoF cuz I love Sleep. Now their new album is out, and I really need to explore their discography before I listen.

 

Do. In my opinion start with Blessed Black Wings or Death Is This Communion as your first, then try Snakes For The Divine, then Surrounded By Thieves, then De Vermis Mysteris and then the last one, Luminferous, and you should be sweet.

On a side note, I don't know what Converge do for you but their last three are Kurt Ballou productions jobs.

 

Also any Benighted fans? Some of the best deathgrind around, and they have a sweet little EP out now that has some good shit on it. This is the title track and it features Sven from Aborted on it.

That Benighted EP has an At the Gates cover on it too that (I haven't heard yet) but I'm sure is great.

 

That post is a good reminder that I need to dig more into Benighted period...they were supposed to do a small tour in the Midwest in July that got cancelled for some reason IIRC. Gonna assume it probably was visa issues.

Fuck yeah. Their last album was one of my tops for that year. One of the few times I haven't hated pig squeals haha.

 

I mean its not amazing, but its not dreadful. Though I love At The Gates and I've never found very many covers of them that I've loved.

Better than the Caliban or Fleshgod Apocalypse ones though...

 

Yeah covers are tough when you have a strong attachment to the original. I just figured it would at least be fun/interesting. I'll listen this evening when I get home.

 

Do it. Them, Aborted, Cattle Decapitation and Misery Index are the best of their breed.

 

Oh its still pretty good, and definitely one of the best ATG covers I've ever heard, so I'm sure you'll enjoy.

 

Also hate to be a thread spammer but I'm gonna put this 2016 EP from an Aussie band called Black Rheno here - they're making new music now and I'm so psyched.

Basically, its stoner metal meets hardcore. Groovy, aggro shit.
