ill just share the whole demo with this thread actually lol....@primavera is writing bass soon and im gonna record our drummer doing a real take when i can, these programmed drums by me are a placeholder and rushed and not realistic in a lot of parts lol but you get the idea

That's fuckin rad my guy, looking forward to what y'all put out.

I wish I could find a band in my local scene but I have no connections and I know a lot of people around here are kinda sketch. What a shame.

    Monday quick hits:

The HIRS album is fucking nasty in the best way possible - spastic trans/queer thrash/hardcore/grind FFO Number 12 Looks Like You/Converge/GLOSS:

The new Petrification album is pretty solid. Need to digest this one a bit more because it feels a bit by numbers at times, but sonically it's right up my alley. Medium-fi OSDM FFO Autopsy/Bolt Thrower:

The new Grave Upheaval is also a solid banger. Uptempo death/doom hybrid on NWN.

ay thanks for the encouragement on the demo! gonna have a legit album by the end of the year recorded i hope. i'll be doing the bulk of it myself but am considering saving up money to do the drums in a studio. i need to buy a lot of equipment to record my guitars right on my own though so we'll see how it all pans out

I've always been under the impression that Whitechapel is gauged ear deathcore, or is that Impending Doom?

Both are, but all in the best way, lol. Impending Doom's first release is worlds apart from everything else, though. Nailed.Dead.Risen is its title and frankly I still think it's one of the most consistently ferocious and nasty pieces of music I've ever head. I mean that legitimately. It blows everything else from the original deathcore scene out of the water and to me is the perfect blending of brutal-death and deathcore. None of that over-reliance on slamming bullshit.

I say that and I love slams as well, but you get what I mean.

The other bands not mentioned were Aversions Crown - which is a proggy-ish technical-ish deathcore project. Xenocide from last year was an album everyone was flipping shit about. Shadow Of Intent is one of my favorite band. Technical/symphonic deathcore with lyrics inspired by the extended lore of the Halo franchise. Their record, Reclaimer, from last year, was runner-up for my favorite release of 2017. Only beaten by Devil Is Fine.

This is Exile is a fun deathcore record.

    Fleshgod Apocalypse is fucking sick.

Definitely gonna try to head to the San Antonio date, been awhile since I've been to that kind of metal show.

Also... what are people's thoughts on Machine Head's "The Blackening" around here? It's one of the records that got me into non-Metallica/Slipknot metal and I think it holds up extremely well to this day, I consider it a classic still.

(Let's ignore Catharsis; Unto the Locust is also extremely tight.)

I feel like I ask this every few months, but does anyone still buy CDs? I had some birthday money and the day off and I told my wife "I'm gonna go buy some CDs!" I picked up the Hoth debut, Green Druid's new album, and Necrot's album from last year. I love CDs lol

I haven't bought a CD intentionally in like 6(?) years...I have a few samplers and demos that I've gotten at shows sitting in my car at the moment that I listen to rarely but other than that it's all digital and vinyl for me at the moment.
