are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Randomly ended up listening to this record this morning, and I always forget how hard it slaps. Shame they broke up last year. :(

Man, that’s really close to Baizley without being an actual piece by him.

to me, all ghost music previously sounded like scooby doo chase music (i know that's a meme, but that lightbulb clicked when i first heard it). i was surprised how much i enjoyed the riffs on the new song. *shrug*

that's the best description of their music I've ever heard and I'm not even sure if it's an insult

I’m honestly going to use that to describe Ghost from now on.

I like a lot of tracks by Ghost but I wouldn’t say I like any of their albums as a whole, they’re all fairly patchy. I do think they’ve got it in them to release something incredible at some point though.

Their recent album was by far their heaviest and most cohesive. Their debut was actually really good as well.

Yeah I enjoyed the last album a fair bit but I found there was still some filler in there. I’m hoping they meet their potential with the new album, if they nail it they could breakthrough to the mainstream as their imagery sells.

It’d be good for a band like that to break big though as there hasn’t really been any big metal bands for a while and when that happens it tends to help out bands lower down the scale by bringing new fans in.

Also I should prob give their debut a go, think I’ve only played it once ages ago.

The new Damned album has some comparisons to Ghost and vice versa which is really cool!

Opus Eponymous is front to back a retro-doom banger, Infestissumam is marred by spotty production but has some great Blue Oyster Cult-esque vibes (and is their most ambitious outing imo), Meliora is good but a little weirdly sequenced, with "Devil Church" being a track I'd relegate to b-side status. The Popestar EP has one of their best original tracks with "Square Hammer" and the covers are varying degrees of good, the best being "Bible".

Also, all the various side-project and pre-Ghost bands that it's various members are/were in are solid. Magna Carta Cartel, Repugnant, In Solitude, SubVision, Priest, pg.lost etc
tagged just in case anyone cares about not knowing members identities even tho i feel like everyone who cares knows at this point ha

The dudes from the band are involved in at least two new projects that I know of:

Radium Grrrls - "Hardcore punk with...powerviolence outbursts, infused with the attitude of the riot grrrl movement and haunted by the righteous personal and political rage" (that press descriptor does a much better job of describing their music than I ever would):

Dödsrit - one of the guitarist's new solo project. It's a nice continuation of the sound that Totem Skin established leaning firmly into a blend of atmospheric black metal and crust punk:

I also didn't intend for the descriptor to be a full font size larger but fuck it.

The ICP record is at least more relevant than the RSD reissue of Black in Back or all the picture disc releases of records that are still in print with regular versions that'll sound a shit ton better. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

With that being said - if labels like Relapse, Deathwish, Dark Descent have a sale for RSD, I'll definitely check those out.
