I was hoping you saw the new z&a. Looks like they might be doing a series of similar themed videos.

Especially once you consider all of the crap that most of the big names are putting out these days. The latest from Kreator, Morbid Angel, Slayer, Suffocation, Metallica, etc were all meh to downright bad. Priest doesn't care, they still are killing it.

seriously. in the metallica thread, you would think hardwired was their best since the s/t and it's just bad lol. love that rob doesn't quite have the range he used to but has transitioned into this really cool new tone with his vocals

The last morbid angel album isn't bad imo

I felt like it was pretty meh, but it was received warmly partly because their previous album was awful. Like, one of the most infamously bad metal albums ever. Most people were just happy they went back to death metal.

If so, I'm excited. This music video actually interested me into what exactly was going on, lol.

I enjoyed suffocation's most recent release.

It's like we discussed earlier with BTBAM...these bands are legends and are well past their prime, anything they put out gets compared to their gold standard. The best you can hope for is consistency and Judas Priest has done that.

Going through it now, loving it. This album plus Hooded Menace have already made 2018 a great year for death/doom

Yeah I checked out the one before and hattttted it. The last one definitely doesn't compare to their older stuff at all

Judas Priest have released exactly three bad albums in their career: Jugulator, Demolition, and Nostradamus. And the first two are only really bad by virtue of Rob Halford being replaced by that Ripper nerd and the production being whack. So really, Nostradamus is the only bad Priest record where they had no excuse.

And don't even fuckin start whining at me about Ram It Down or Turbo, those records are fun as hell and have some all time great bangers.

To be fair, I think it is their best since the s/t and still think it's pretty bad. There are a few bangers on there, but the bar is so low for Metallica at this point after St. Anger and Lulu (I know that abomination was largely Lou Reed's brainchild, but they are still complicit in that atrocity by proxy) that pretty much anything they put out is going to be heralded as a return to form. I remember Death Magnetic getting a fair amount of praise when it came out just for being a step in the right direction after St. Anger.

The problem with St. Anger, Hardwired and even Death Magnetic to an extent is that the songs are all too long. I don't have a problem with a 8 minute song if it progresses (One, Master of Puppets, etc...) but a lot of the songs on the last few albums just repeat the same riff(s) for 5-6 minutes of an 8 minute song. Edit some of those songs down to 4-5 minutes, make the album(s) 45 minutes long instead of 90 minutes, and I think they're pretty solid records.

St. Anger also had production issues, but there are some good ideas/riffs on that album that get over looked.

I don't think I ever even managed to listen to the entirety of Lulu and I'm a Metallica die hard.

Lo-fi cacophonous black metal for your Monday, Vilkacis. The bottom embed there is two tracks from his album coming out on Friday.

My honest gripe with new Metallica is that it just feels like a chore to sit through the albums. Like I can fuck with newer Slayer or Anthrax albums with no problem (Megadeth not so much) but I feel like I’m doing homework or menial housework listening to DM or Hardwired. They’re just boring.

yeah their albums have been way too fucking long dating back to load. i’d say DM is the least of a slog to get through but yeah

Metalcore bands that time (and Metal Blade records) forgot.
