I’m sort of interested in this band coming back.

I get BTBAM's inclusion on there because their first two albums are, for a lack of a better word, metalcore albums...especially on the self-titled. They just picked the wrong album if they were going to include them on there.

Converge and Botch aren't head scratchers to me at all. Their sounds are both heavily rooted in metal and hardcore. Converge's pre-Jane Doe stuff could aptly be described as metalcore. Botch fits well in both worlds as a mathcore band.

But it's really all semantics...it's one of the better essential albums lists I've seen recently though I probably wouldn't have picked God Forbid or The Chariot. I'd have put Deadguy (Fixation on a Coworker) and Darkest Hour (Undoing Ruin or Deliver Us) in over them.

how are you shocked converge and botch are considered metalcore? both of those bands are two of the most influential in the genre....thought that was extremely well known...

For Kerrang that’s a very solid list, I can’t fault it too much (although I wouldn’t have picked Colors for btbam). I also agree with @swboyd in that I’d have put Darkest Hour in there somewhere.

Just cleaned them out of my Spotify. Glad I never bought anything from this piece of shit. Absolutely appalling. Any recommendations for bands that do their riff-y doom-y style of black metal so I can replace their role in my music listening? Thanks.

It probably only came up now because nobody went looking until now, and those that knew didn't say anything on hopes of the reports being false. As for touring abroad, I have no clue how he's managed it.

Piece of shit should be in prison.

Influential for sure but they don't abuse the riff style and breakdowns common to metalcore. I guess it is just semantics but ya

And darkest hour in best metalcore?? I can't.

thats modern metalcore, metalcore has been around long enough that its not just breakdown oriented shit that's typically associated with it. the early acts like converge and botch and dillinger were rooted in mathcore, but they were some of the biggest bands doing the metallic punk thing in the 90s which made way for 00s metalcore

them being some of the earliest metalcore bands doesnt make them metalcore? just because metalcore had a different sound back then doesnt mean it wasnt metalcore at the time. genres change and evolve over time and the trailblazers never sound anything like the current crop if its an old enough genre. does modern rap sound anything like the 80s?

The problem with that analogy is rap is a massive category. It's like saying this list encompasses all metal

But that's fair I'll buy it if we're painting metalcore with a broadbrush...but even still some early albums from bands might be metalcore but they didn't pick the metalcore albums.

Jane Doe and Colors are not metalcore albums. Fullstop.

if you're argument is the lack of breakdowns is what makes them not metalcore you should revisit most of converge's stuff, lots of breakdowns just not in traditional structures

i dont know in what world jane doe doesnt combine extreme metal and hardcore punk
