Went on an Artisan Era binge yesterday, label is out of Tennessee, primarily in the extreme-tech death realm. FFO Inanimate Existence, Beneath the Massacre, Signs of the Swarm, black dahlia murder

So I thought the last Inferi was really just a black dahlia knockoff but they're progressing here...and Trevor Strnad is doing guest vocals lol

They've been teasing new material for a couple years now. Disclosure was probably the last Sumerian release that I enjoyed a lot. Esoteric Agenda was a rad song.

IIRC, Al Mu'min couldn't keep a steady line-up together, right? It'd be nice to see them over on this side of the pond if they're going to tour on this release.

I honestly think hell will freeze over before they do that. But I will metaphorically eat my hat if they do. I think it's more likely they will bust out a track from New American Gospel that isn't Black Label. So we'll see.

Primitive Man/Spectral Voice/Like Rats was an awesome show last night. I know I've posted about them a fair amount here before, but I'll toot that horn once again - Like Rats is probably my favorite local band at the moment. They play an awesome mid-tempo old-school type of death metal that has some hardcore and black metal influence as well. Check them out!

Spectral Voice was every bit as impressive as I expected them to be. Their live sound matched the record pretty impeccably. They miiiight have been the best sounding band I've ever seen at Subterranean here in Chicago, which can be a feat because the venue is pretty notorious for having a loud, muffled sound when bands play. But yeah, their well executed death/doom hybrid worked well live with candles and fog machines to boot.

Primitive Man was great. They were probably the band I was least stoked about as I've seen them twice before, and they just don't have as much personal hype as the other two bands. But they were solid. The fact that Ethan is able to replicate those vocals in live environment will always impress me. Their crushing sludge/doom mix did a nice job of closing out the night even if they only played for less than 30 minutes (Spectral Voice played for ~40 in comparison).

All in all, it wasn't a bad Tuesday night out. Now on to Protest Hero on Friday!

I've been into like rats for a while, they have a good amount of diversity in their repertoire, every album of theirs is enjoyable.

    Watain/Destroyer 666/Nexul tonight.

I'm not really familiar with any of the bands, but I got $5 tickets, so why not?

Been listening to Destroyer 666 this morning though and I like what I've heard.

Just a heads up - the main fucker from Destroyer 666 is a misogynistic prick:

With #KillTheKing, Heavy Metal Is Having Its #MeToo Moment

They've written some good tunes over the years, but this kind of shit is enough for me to write them off.

    Well, fuck me.

I was halfway getting into them... kind of figured they'd be the highlight of the night. Bummer.

Well, hopefully Watain will be decent.

edit: Thanks for the heads up though. At least I'll know not to buy any of their merch now.
