which albums by Dream Theater and Meshuggah should I start with?

 

Not sure about DT but as for Meshuggah, Chaosphere

 

Rad band. Reminds me a bit of Death.

 

ive yet to hear every DT album, i think ive got a few later day ones left, but images and words is typically considered their best, or one of their best and a good entry point.

 

For Dream Theater, I'd go with Images and Words followed by Metropolis Pt. 2. For Meshuggah, either Chaosphere or obZen, but I'd go with the former first.

Black Clouds and Silver Linings by DT is really good.

 

Nothing is a good point for Meshuggah too

 

I've never listened to a Meshuggah album but that Wolf of Wall Street video always gets a lol out of me. Thats my only input.

 

Metropolis Pt2 is the only DT album I’ve truly liked. They’ve definitely got good material elsewhere but I struggle with them as I find they’re so overblown and cheesy.

 

Cheese is pretty much how I feel about DT. Don’t get me wrong, they’re an insanely talented band and has great songs but the cheese factor is so strong with them. On a side note, Mike Portnoy is an asshole.

That band just can’t ever keep a lineup together, can they?

 

Prog tends to be cheesier than most genres and even for prog DT are cheesy. Sometimes it hits the spot tho. Definitely have to be in a certain mood to throw them on, a mood I'm not often in

 

I’ll take a new Abigail Williams record please!

i finally found the latest lluvia album since its been scrubbed from the internet digitally almost entirely and i missed it when it dropped, anyway its incredible as i expected

 

To no one's surprise I love them, it's like if the faceless wasn't a tire fire.

If you like it, I would give first fragment a spin.
