Holy Roar are really killing it with their releases atm, Rolo Tomassi last week and now this from Conjurer. I’m shit with metal genres but it’s kinda sludgy doomy post-metal with some big riffs thrown in there.

I had no interest for the new BTBAM until I read these posts. If they’re heading back to that era’s sound I’ll definitely have to check it out.

I need to check this out and Priest. And give BTBAM some more time.

Giving BTBAM a re-listen right now, and I'm not hearing the Alaska stylings in it at all. It's a better release than anything that came out during the their Parallax and Coma Ecliptic period, but so far, I'm chalking that up to the fact it's a concise, tight release compared to that period. My ears must be bad.

Must be! They are some definite nods to Alaska in there which is really cool because I know fans have been wanting them to give us more of that sound.

^Eh. Whatevs. After finishing the album, I stand by what I said - it's a good standalone release in the modern BTBAM canon. The first couple tracks are good, but the second half of the album falls off for me.

On the flip side, I'm having a good time revisiting Prayer for Cleansing and Glass Casket this afternoon. Glass Casket especially. They need to finish their GD album that's ten years overdue.

After going down the Prayer for Cleansing wormhole, I'm now finding myself looking for contemporary bands that capture that 90s/00s metalcore sound like them and Undying. So far, I've got Drawing Last Breath and xElegyx...and that's about it. Any bands I might be missing?

Side note - I cannot believe I slept on Drawing Last Breath. Holy shit, they are good.

Oh shit I totally forgot Drudkh had a new one out, gonna get on that asap.

Picked up the new Priest today and yeah, it rules. Still bummed out about Glenn though. Priest without either him or KK just doesn't feel right, even though Halford is still going strong and Ian and Scott are still killing it as one of the best rhythm sections in metal.

I do like Richie on guitar though, and they could do a whole lot worse than Andy Sneap filling in on tour. Curious now who'll step in full-time, or if Glenn will still be able to record with them despite not being able to tour.
