i posted about it on the last page, man. get it together! :)

edit: i now realize that it was a single youtube video, which is one of my least favorite ways of streaming releases.

apple music is so bad about adding albums to your library that you added for pre-release. its supposed to automatically update to your library the day the album drops if you add it before it comes out but it never works like that

I don't use Apple Music, but that sounds absolutely infuriating for tracking new releases just based on expecting something to work and then it not delivering.

My odd combination of Bandcamp/Spotify/Google Music/Soulseek seems to work well for me so why alter a good thing?

yeah it sucks but apple music overall is much better than spotify ever was for me (which i used for years) on desktop anyway, i mostly listen to music on my desktop computer. i use a combo of apple music and bandcamp, and the vast majority of stuff i find on bandcamp is on apple music anyway so it usually works out. its just hard to keep track of stuff coming out with apple music sometimes, which is why i requested last page people post stuff when albums come out and not just singles haha

The Vastum/Spectral Voice split is up for streaming now. Dirty OSDM on one side, spooky as fuck death/doom on the other. Enjoy y'all.

    whats ODSM?

Old school death metal - bands that take their music back to the genre's early periods and aren't as focused on mixing it with other genres and on injecting overt technicality or experimentation into their sound. Someone who's actually a musician could probably give a much better explanation about what separates OSDM from more modern stuff.

Here's a pretty good primer from Toilet Ov Hell about it: Beginner's Guide to Old School Death Metal

EDIT: It didn't help that I made a typo in that post. Le sigh.

the fact i can't discern my own spelling mistakes in acronyms i use sometimes certainly doesn't help either.

Lot of good metal stuff out today. Gonna be a busy listening docket for the afternoon:

    Between the Buried and Me
    Judas Priest
    Vile Creature
    Of Feather and Bone
    Twitching Tongues
    Drudkh
    Starkweather/Concealment split
    Sojourner
    Whipstriker

Half of these I've already listened to, but I'm planning on revisiting them all.

Man I should like everything about Sojourner. The lyrics, style, artwork....but they just don't stick out for some reason. The liberal use of flute and female vocals are pretty cool but they don't really leave a lasting impression on me. Same thing happened with the last album.

Agreed. When I listened to the first track, I was really impressed, but it just kept trudging on and on. After my initial impression of the novelty and how clean everything sounded, nothing stood out. I have that problem with a lot of atmospheric BM though.

I've avoided any leaks waiting for the official drop. I've heard through the grapevine that there's a lot of Alaska era sound in this album so I am full of hype.

Another new project from the dude behind Void Ritual? He doesn't take breaks. This is solid stuff. I've been craving a good black/death hybrid release recently, and this does a good job of scratching that itch.
