I've heard of and listened to them in passing before, but for some reason, I thought they were from Europe. They're not bad from what I remember, but I definitely should revisit them at some point.

BTW, I D/L-ed the new BTBAM. It's decent. It's better composed than the last few BTBAM releases and the fact they're releasing the double album in segments makes it a lot more digestible when it's a sub 40 minute release. But there's still the prog elements you expect from BTBAM that I'm not a huge fan of. Basically - if you're a fan of post-Colors BTBAM, then this is another solid release in the canon.

I listened to a new BTBAM single and the progginess turned me completely off

I enjoy Nervosa when I'm in the mood for thrash.

I haven't listened to new BTBAM yet. I like the single and I also liked the Parallax releases, which I've seen this new one compared to, but I never got into Misdirect or Coma. I don't mind some prog elements, even if I don't listen to much prog outside of its incorporation into other genres.

Yeah I'm not really feeling the new BTBAM. I understand they lost people with the Parallax stuff, but I actually really enjoyed those albums. I was pretty eh on Coma Ecliptic and the new stuff makes me wonder what happened to this band. But then the progression has been pretty clear, it's not like it's a completely new direction. I'm just having a hard time accepting it haha.

As for some stuff I can accept, the Crescent album is pretty good. For fans of actual Egyptian death metal (they are from Cairo) but aren't into the intense speed and technicality of Nile, this band is perfect.

The Noose Rot EP is also a great slab of death metal. Sucks that it's only 4 songs. Will anxiously be following these guys.

The biggest example of this phenomenon for me is Dave Hunt from Anaal Nathrakh. He sounds like he's tearing up his vocal chords anytime he's on record, but catch him in an interview and he has this high-pitched, nasally English accent that just makes him sound like somebody's shrewd English teacher. First time I heard it I about lost my shit, lol.

Uhhh new BTBAM reminds me a lot of The Great Misdirect/Parallax era of the band

I'm listening to the leak right now, am I allowed to say that?

This new Genocide Pact is oozing with Bolt Thrower influence in places. Love it.

Totally. It's wild to think about how Scum and From Enslavement to Obliteration must've sounded when they first came out and we didn't have a good few decades of grind to look back on. Still holds up today.

On a similiar note, I've always wondered what Black Sabbath sounded like to rock fans in 1969/1970 when their debut dropped. That first track is still heavy and evil as hell, with that slow tri-tone riff and Ozzy's tortured vocals.

Haha, I'm watching an interview with him now and I'd never heard him speak before. Definitely know what you mean. It's fun that him and Barney are both from Birmingham and have that same distinct regional accent.

I made a Spotify playlist of every band playing Maryland Deathfest (with music on Spotify) this year for myself and a couple friends that are going, but I figured it didn't hurt to share it here as well since there's a lot of acts on there that I haven't really delved into. Enjoy.

Anti-oppressive queer vegan doom that's nice and angry. I dig it.

The new Judas Priest has drip drip-ed into the world and is pretty good. Halford doesn't hit the same highs as he did with classic Priest, but he seems really comfortable within a nice mid-range on this one. It's instrumentally on point too. Sneap did a good job with the production.

I don't know if this really belongs here (may be too hardcore or punk for some of you metalheads) but these 2 songs are amazing and I'm really excited for this album. Produced by Kurt Ballou and featuring Ben Koller on drums (Converge, Killer Be Killed, Mutoid Man, All Pigs Must Die):

    Naaaaasty OSDM from last year.

Death/doom from last year that holds the first proper award for "song lyrics that have genuinely creeped me the fuck out". Listen to the track The Gift and read along with it as it goes and try not to feel even a twinge of nervousness, I dare you. The Hidden Fiend was a bit spooky too.

Both of these ones are great. Last year was incredible for death metal. Pretty good so far this year too.
