Sad. But not surprising at all. Dom had been periodically having 25 record for $100 sales over the past few years, and (as the article mentioned) all of his larger acts that were still active have jumped ship to Relapse.

    hmmm

The transition between Aftermath and Rituals on the Rolo Tomassi album is a very strong early contender for musical moment of the year. Fantastic stuff.

Guess I really need to check out this Rolo Tomassi album.

IMO, this Rolo Tomassi album is pretty good, but I don't love it on the same level as a lot of you do, apparently. It's a solid blend of Oathbreaker and TDEP with some BTBAM and Converge-ish elements thrown in. IDK. My tastes have just shifted away from a lot of proggier stuff like this over the years.

But yeah, there's new albums coming from Of Feather and Bone, Judas Priest, Drudkh, and Whipstriker that'll get more listens from me. *shrug*

opinionated, yes. but i'll never put someone down for liking something i don't enjoy as much. in the end, i'm glad the community at least seems to tolerate my musical curmudgeon-ness.

Rolo Tomassi was definitely my favorite metal release of the past week.

But damn was the new slugdge record fantastic too. Oceans of Slumber's latest was pretty good but a little too long.

I didn't really know anything about Slugdge until I looked into them a little more. Apparently they just write about slugs taking over everything or something like that. I love the puns in their song titles haha

Sludge was already taken so to make it edgy they added an extra G. Lol.

    Random Monday updates:

-Just discovered these guys, Gygax. Dungeons and Dragons themed proto-metal/hard rock featuring current and ex-members of Huntress, Skeletonwitch, Pentagram, Gypsyhawk, and Warbringer. I enjoyed these guys a lot more than I thought I would...they're an easy listen, especially if you're into Dungeons and Dragons. The new album comes out in two weeks on March 16th.

-New track from the upcoming Eagle Twin album on Southern Lord. They're a psychedelic stoner doom duo with gruff vocals that sound like satanic incantations. I dig it.

Also probably already mentioned/posted, but I just got around to the new Rivers of Nihil song:

And some German death metal with hints of Psycroptic and Misery Index. Not sure if I like it yet but I think some of you will:

Went down a bit of Youtube wormhole today and found this neat little gem:

Grindcore being performed on the side of the street in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The band playing in this video (Test) is fucking rad and touring the US in May/June. Praying for a Chicago date.

That’s funny. A coworker of mine just came back from a trip to Brazil/Argentina. He said Brazil was really a very poor and run down country and the tour guide they were with wouldn’t let them in a lot of parts because the country is so crime ridden. He said Argentina on the other hand was amazing and beautiful.

I don't know a lot about the current socioeconomic/political situation of a majority of Brazil at the moment...I just know they seem to have an inordinate amount of good grind/crust/punk bands that come from there. Test included.

Very true. It must be hard for a lot of bands to break out of there though because of the poverty level.

On the DIY level at least, there are a lot of bands that seem to be doing a decent job of it. Test, DER, Ratos de Porao (sp?), Facada, Deaf Kids...and that's not even counting bands at the top of the heap like Sepultura and Angra. It could just be the sources I get my music from though, but there seems to be a lot more bands from Brazil getting international exposure than anywhere else in Latin or Central America (population size could also be a factor).

Edit: Brazil Thrash - a História • r/Metal -Here's an interesting primer someone on r/metal put together about Brazilian thrash metal. Neat.
