lol, it's bad but i've seen far, far worse. it actually captures the music pretty well - the perfect soundtrack for a back country drive on an ice road in your big rig*.

*i say this having never seen ice road truckers so apologies if my viewpoint is a bit skewed.

Harms Way is going to be the new Code Orange. I like Code Orange but I think they are going to shift styles on the next album.

I agree and disagree with you here.

I definitely think Code Orange is going to switch up their sound a bit on their new album. Just based off the Adult Swim track they released a couple days ago, it wouldn't surprise me to see them go in more of a 90s grunge/industrial/metal fusion type sound ala Nine Inch Nails or Fear Factory. I also wouldn't be surprised if they abandoned their hardcore roots a significant amount. They also sound a lot like a band still searching for their identity...but that's a further aside than I want to dive into here.

I don't think Harms Way is going to pick up Code Orange's mantle though...Posthuman doesn't lean as far deeply into the industrial side of things as Forever did. Their sound also has a lot more groove metal influence in it (IMO) than Code Orange did. Plus vocally their not as dynamic as Code Orange is...James is an awesome frontman, but he's very one note vocally. Code Orange's tripartite vocal attack sets them apart there. I also don't think Posthuman will get the same type of mainstream buzz that Code Orange got with Forever.

With all that being said, I still prefer Harms Way to Code Orange because Harms Way is just STUPID heavy and more cohesive in their sound.

Harms Way is still deeply rooted in Hardcore and that is what I love about them.

Letter to Jacob Bannon and Deathwish:
Thank you for finding these two amazing bands and fostering them. Keep up the good work!
    Sincerely,
    Nate

They are one of my favorite labels. Fun fact: I actually worked in Salem, MA where the office is.

how I feel about most death metal I've heard tbh lol but I've been trying to get into it and break my prejudices toward it

I wouldn't tag portal as death metal at all. Far too chaotic.

everything I've read about them puts them in Avant garde death, which seems right based on regular death metal I've heard, but I see what you mean.

I have heard them described as "a wall of sound". There are other bands out there that do something very similar. It's a hard genre to get into.

I hope the hubris hasn't gotten the best of them and they soon realize that this is by far their worst song so far.

Portal is death metal, at their core. They're more avant-garde/adventurous than someone like Deicide or Cannibal Corpse, for sure, but the foundation of their sound is totally built on death metal.

I was gonna say, yeah. Could've sworn they were considered black/death at the very least.

Maybe listen to them more than read about them? There's nothing death metal about their sound.

Portal is pretty good live. They sounded a lot like getting stabbed with a bunch of acupuncture needles while being transported through a wormhole. Not a band I listen to often on record though.

Plus Metal Archives also describes then as experimental death...and I generally agree with that tag.

Truth. I don't think I've ever really heard vocals like that, meshes great with the sound
