That'd be rad, too! I keep thinking of some of the covers they've been doing the last few years that haven't surfaced yet on a record anywhere. "Are You There Margaret, It's Me God?" by the Lawrence Arms, "Bullets & Butterfly Wings" by the Smashing Pumpkins, "Manthem" by the Bouncing Souls... And now, I guess that Green Day one and Jason Isbell. Real anxious to see what winds up on it! Unfortunately the release is delayed a bit, but in the delay message they mentioned that they plan on doing this or something similar on all future headlining tours. Which is something I could totally get behind! Couldn't agree more. One of my favorite songs in their catalog, and easily one of my three favorites on Nimrod (always flip-flopping between that one, "Scattered," and "Redundant"). A full-band Menzingers cover of that would be fantastic. I can hear it in my head, hah. A little bummed that the acoustic rendition from the other day didn't make it on the Internet, TBH. Haha.
They have a Bouncing Souls cover of K8 Is Great out, I didn't know they covered Manthem ever though that's fucking awesome. I remember when they used to always cover The Lawrence Arms, I'd love to hear that one recorded
Oh, I have that "Kate is Great" cover. That's one of my favorite splits from the last few years, though I wish the Souls had a second guitar play for the "Burn After Writing" cover... It feels a little sparser than it should.
Agreed. Souls are my favorite band and Menzingers are right behind em so the split should be my favorite thing ever but that cover is just meh.
Man, it's cool to see folks talking about this new record with the level of excitement that they are. Picking apart the lyrics, discussing specific song parts, etc. They've grown into something really special.
im listening to hold on dodge for the first time rn and now im understanding why people mixed up tom and gregs voices haha. jeez
Pre Chamberlain I can definitely see the mix up of voices. I don't understand how people can't tell them apart past that though haha maybe it's just because I've familiarized myself so many times
it took me a bit, in their higher ranges they sound very different, but in lower ranges they sound more similar. on the new record Tom really only sings high so its easier to hear when its him
I could listen to the acoustic version of Burn all day. Also neat that Tom drops in this performance that he wrote it in Chicago
Holy shit at the covers EP tracklisting. "Waiting" by Green Day, "Civil Twilight" by the Weakerthans, "We Didn't Start the Fire" by Billy Joel, and "Thirteen" by Big Star.
Was really hoping for their cover of Bullet with Butterfly Wings. Probably my 2nd favorite Menz concert moment.
Another good cover they did in Cleveland back in the day was Rancid's Roots Radicals. Edit: I think they also have done Knowledge by Operation Ivy at some point.
Just been going dastardly on Chamberlain Waits lately. Really wish I knew about the Menz earlier so I could have seen Greg scream the CW songs like this performance
They've definitely covered "Knowledge." Saw them do it on that one tour with the Flatliners and Broadway Calls that they did around Fest back in 2011... Jesus, that line-up was a dream.
That is a stacked lineup. Europe is getting the Menzingers, Flatliners, and the Dirty Nil. That's pretty damn close to that tour.
Definitely close! As much as I love Jeff Rosenstock and Rozwell Kid... I'd gladly trade them both for the Flatliners and the Dirty Nil.
