Gates I Can't Seem To Tell Good Things The Obituaries Where Your Heartache Exists Transient Love Casey The Shakes Tasker Morris Station Times Tables Irish Goodbyes All interchangeable tbh. Also, Honourable Mentions - Every other song in their discography
so weird that I was listening to Gates as I looked at this thread. actually, it's not that weird because I still listen to this record at least once a day.
Also, have to say I prefer the bridge of the acoustic Good Things to the full band version "Like when we would take rides in your American muscle car I felt American, sharing our smokes I got high while you drank and drove"
Subbin and fucking loving the repping of Mexican Guitars, because, well: 1. Mexican Guitars 2. Good Things 3. Casey 4. Gates 5. The Obituaries 6. Deep Sleep 7. Irish Goodbyes 8. Male Call 9. I Can't Seem to Tell 10. Sunday Morning Edit: Should clarify Male Call is on here in particular for the live version, man Greg and Tom kill the harmonies. I dig RW too as a huge Menz fan, but it still can't top CW or especially OTIP for me.
Subject to change: 1. Gates 2. Casey 3. Time Tables 4. In Remission 5. Rodent 6. Sunday Morning 7. Transient Love 8. Sun Hotel 9. Rivalries 10. Mexican Guitars
1. Casey 2. Gates 3. Mexican Guitars 4. In Remission 5. The Obituaries 6. Where Your Heartache Exists 7. Good Things 8. Burn After Writing 9. I Can't Seem To Tell 10. Bad Things Only got around to listening to Chamberlain Waits a bit more recently so that may explain only being the last two albums.
You should revisit your list after you let Chamberlain marinate with you. Whether you re-post your top ten or not is separate, but I think you will be really surprised with that record. It's really good and a much stronger predecessor of OTIP than new fans of the band realize.
I loved Rented World faster than maybe any other record of recent years. Immediately clicked. Weird story behind it for me, though - I was in Long Island visiting my ex for her birthday, which was the very day it leaked, or at least the day I first got ahold of it. That night, I had a walking night terror that resulted in me crashing into a window sill, losing a lot of blood, and getting a concussion. I took the bus from NYC home to upstate the next day with it on loop for four hours, in a concussion induced fog, and I swear to god this thing hit me on a spiritual level. We broke up in May, oddly enough, after I went to a Menzingers show with Lemuria & Pup. It was all I listened to in the couple of months after that. I love this band. EDIT: I guess you could say I felt the false azure from windowpanes.
Damn dude that is a crazy story. Night terrors, concussions, and breakups... That sounds like a lot in a short span. Glad you were able to find a sliver of good from it. Hope things are going better now.
Thanks man! Yeah, night terrors are weird. I've had three and they're a trip. Anyways, No Ticket is the most underrated Menzingers track from their core discography. I saw Greg & Tom play an acoustic set at like 1 am in Brooklyn a year and a half ago to celebrate Red Scare's anniversary. They played No Ticket, My Friend Chris, Male Call, and friggin' Sun Hotel #2, among some other deep cuts like Kentucky Gentlemen. I met my current best friend for the first time at that show, and I have some wonderful pictures of us wasted meeting Greg, Tom, and Brendan Kelly at the bar at 3 am. The lead singer of Elway roasted me for yelling Freebird at that show when he called for requests. This band has a weird place in my life lol.
I like that they moved the bulk of that line to the title track. It fits with the more haunting vibe of that particular song.
The Menzingers will be supporting Bayside on their tour in August and September. Pre-order tickets sold out already. I was only able to get one...
Been listening to these guys a ton lately, so fantastic. Need to listen to their first album, because I've been working my way backwards in the discography.
So stoked to see them in September w/ Bayside. I adore their past two albums - OTIP is an all-timer for me - and hope they have something out by late summer or early fall to promote on the tour.
Been rinsing Chamberlain Waits recently. ...And forever, but I digress, it's still such a fucking great album
Ugh this band just gets me like no other The Shakes is pretty much my life Like yeah, there's bands out there that I listen to and love that have maybe better instrumentation, lyrics, and songwriting (maybe not all at the same time mind) but none of them quite feel as visceral as this band does, these guys just make me feel like they're right there singing it right in my face in a heart to heart over a beer or five and that's why they're my favourite band brb just gonna go scream the obituaries from a rooftop
