Subbin. I was one of those people who really didn't like RW when it came out but it clicked with me in a big way last year. I'm in the boat with Gates as their best song off of OTIP but The Obituaries comes a damn close second. I just love Greg's lyrics all around tbh they're so well written yet so grounded and human at the same time. I'm excited for whatever the man puts out and I'd be interested to see if he does some solo stuff in the future. "'Cause I am the shadow of the waxwing slain I felt the false azure from windowpanes I'm just freaking out, yeah I'll be fine."
So good to hear more people coming around to RW. It's a really good record. I am really excited to see what they do next. If I had to guess, it will be closer to CW. I am not really basing that on anything either.
I don't disagree with that at all. I just think if this record came before OTIP or a couple releases after, that it would be received a little differently. The more I listen to it, the more I don't see it as a big departure like I initially thought it was.
I would agree with that. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great record, there were just a few choruses, in particular, that left me wanting a little something more. Notably, "Bad Things" and "My Friend Kyle." Those two kind of kill the flow for me in the first half.
Damn haha, My Friend Kyle is one of my favorite songs because it feels like it could have been on a previous record. That's why I like it in their live set. Oh well. The last two songs are probably my least favorites on the record.
I can see that, it's just never stuck with me for whatever reason. Favorites from RW are Asshole, Rodent, Transient Love, In Remission, and When You Died.
I know how to tell the difference between their voices but I can't put a name to them. Who is the one that sings on "I Don't Want To Be An Asshole Anymore"?
That's Greg. Greg is usually the more aggressive sounding one. Toms voice is a bit more typical punk sounding. Both are great at what they do though.
OTIP is one of my favorite albums ever but RW is a stronger record across the board, so excited for the new record
Still think this is the best active punk band right now. OTIP is a masterclass of great punk songwriting with its thematic nature and Americana influence.
I always liked RW from the start, but I don't think it was ever going to top my love for OTIP. That being said " Transiet Love" "Hearts Unknown" and "Where Your Heartache exists are some of my favorite Menz songs.
The best songs on OTIP are better than the best songs on RW but I think RW works better as a concise album. That being said, I think Casey topped my most listened to song on Spotify for like two years. It's just the best.
