For the sports card collectors- The Menzingers are featured in this year’s Topps Allen and Ginter set. Each member has their own base card and autograph card, plus there are quad auto cards of the whole band.
Check your local card/hobby shops. They’ll have hobby boxes with better odds of getting autographs if that’s what you’re after. There are also value boxes which you’ll find at places like Walmart and Target, but I’m not sure if those have hit stores yet. The hobby boxes were officially released yesterday.
I am 100% not a baseball card collector so I had to look up what the Allen and Ginter set is. But this thing looks both so awesome and full of cool, interesting and different variants and people. The complete list from the Topps website gives me massive anxiety though. It would be cool to pull a Chad Gilbert next to an Emma Roberts.
Been doing a discog run this week when I’ve been out walking the dogs. On The Impossible Past still remains a perfect album & one of my favorites of all time. Love it so much
Finally got to Some of it Was True. I somehow missed this one when it first came out, despite being a huge fan of the band. I’m typically a fan of Greg songs but this is definitely one where I really enjoy the Tom songs more. Greg’s voice has more of that Dave Hause / trying to sound like Springsteen twang to it on this one and it kind of threw me off. If I’m ranking after doing the full run: 1. On the Impossible Past 2. Chamberlain Waits 3. Rented World 4. After the Party 5. A Lesson In The Abuse of IT / Hold on Dodge 6. Hello Exile 7. Some of It Was True Biggest surprise for me was Rented World. I didn’t really like it when it first came out but honestly hit better than After the Party for me this time around.
I have the same top 4. Rented World hits harder after not listening to it a ton the past few years. It’s where the band got weird in the best way possible resulting in some top tier tunes that push it a little bit past ATP for me.
Definitely hoping for a little more of the raw aggression from the band on this next one after the past two albums have been a little more subdued.
When I first heard Rented World, I felt like I had heard the record before. Not in a generic sense, but in a nostalgic sense. It was absolutely everything I wanted the band to do after OTIP.
I saw them live for the first time around that era, so it will always be special to me for that reason. It's not my favorite but it is endlessly better than the last 2 and those songs bring me back to a very nostalgic place.
I'm still largely unfamiliar with this band and their output but I have really enjoyed Some since it came out and think it's such a good, meaningful and emotional listen (if slightly patchy) that I'm surprised it doesn’t seem to be much cared for. Though I am listening in the context of not knowing the rest of their catalogue.
This record is probably last on my ranking. It’s still pretty good, just missing that grittiness I prefer
hello exile is my favorite and this is my least favorite which is kinda funny since theyre arguably the most alike albums in their discog lol. something about this one never connected with me but i like a few songs
OTIP, Chamberlain, and After The Party are perfect. Hello Exile is dogshit. Rented World is very good. Hold On, Dodge is GOATed, Some of it Was True is a snorefest. These last two albums have been some of the absolute most boring thinfs any band has ever released this. They went from one of my favorites to a band I only moderately care about whenever they release an album (to disappointment these last two releases). I just can't understand liking Hello Exile better than the other, infinitely better albums they released prior to that garbage.
i mean tbh its all kind of grown off me to an extent, when i try and jam the "classics" i find them pretty patchy these days. otip in particular has at least 4 dead spots for me. i do agree that the new album did not help things but i kinda think they were more of a time and place band for me anyway
