yeah this is how I feel too. I'm hoping the album was some kind of pandemic hangovery thing and they'll be back to their best now. Everything from Chamberlain to Exile I loved, ATP the peak.

Edit: I don't think Some of It Was True was bad by any means (apart from Take it to Heart, really dislike that song), just didn't really do it for me overall. Felt like it just lacked a little bit of the spike that made them special. Alone in Dublin felt like a not-quite-as-good retread of London Drugs, Ultraviolet of Strain Your Memory.

My favourite Greg song on it is Running in the Roar of the Wind.

charlie's army - boy blue i could do without, but then it starts spittin' again.

 

Exactly the stretch I’m talking about, though I do like “Black Mass” as a little bit of a breather.

"Charlie's Army" is enjoyably goofy, but it's always felt like a b-side to me.

 

yeah charlie's army is the song that should have been scrapped for The Freaks

 

"Boy Blue" is the only I don't love on there. "No Penance" and "Cemetery's Garden" are stronger and could have fit in that spot.

 

Wild takes in here!! Bad Catholics is only ok

 

Swap Boy Blue for Thick as Thieves (worst Menz song) and this is perfect.

Cemetery’s Garden is the best Tom song after OTIP.

Your wild years has become my fav Menz song. So ATP is tops until that is dethroned

 

still shocked they opened with this but really was cool as hell

 

The Freaks is soooooo good

 

OTIP is their peak, that’s a classic, but man, do I love Hello Exile, and I appreciate the rawness they were going for on Rented World. Some of it was Through has some cool Tom Petty vibes and is more straightforward rock and roll I think. And off course After The Party has some classic songs that are their very best, but also their most boring songs in some way, but that’s just me then (Thick as Thieves is their worst song in my opinion).

Anyways, great great band

 

How do people not like Thick As Thieves? It goes OFF live.

 

Hold On, Dodge is their peak, I've decided.

 

til people dont like charlies army, thats a career highlight if we're purely talking vocal hooks

no penance woulda been a huge highlight for me on atp, no idea how tf they left that one off

 

'dont like' is probably a too strong of a way to put it
