I usually tend to slightly prefer Greg songs, but honestly, Tom was firing on all fucking cylinders on this album
Didn't realize the deluxe was officially out today. What a surprise. I absolutely love The Last One Killed Me.
The best Tom songs are the ones the band doesn’t seem to like enough to put on regular albums which is so weird
new tracks are so good. gave me a reason to revisit the whole album after leaving it dormant lately. this whole album's a goddamn banger.
I revisit this album all of the damn time. Its probably my second favorite album from these guys behind After the Party. It just hits perfectly for me. The Last One Killed Me is great. Think it could have been a nice addition to the album.
I don't know them well enough to know the names. Who sings Hope Is A Dangerous Little Thing, There's No Place and Come On Heartache?
Greg. I had this problem when I was starting out too to be fair. Greg sings the majority of songs and has the deep belty voice. Tom (Nobody Stays, Try, Gone West) sings about a third of their stuff and has the softer, higher-pitched voice.
Listened to this again today for first time in a while. It’s a good album and really flys by but it doesn’t hit like anll their other albums. Guess that can be a good thing. Why make a similar thing over and over. I still feel it’s closer to Greg’s solo release than anything else. A great summer/fall evening drive record.
Greg often has a pronounced warble. Tom often sounds like he's yelling over the noise in a bar. I find Greg easier to understand. Greg also has more of the "story songs" and Tom has a less direct lyrical style. I definitely had trouble telling them apart to begin with but now it seems really obvious.
you swap out one of Greg's sad sack, my girlfriend dumped me songs for "Gone West" and tack on "The Last One Killed Me" as a closer and this album is right up there with their best (I get that they were going for a more epic closer with "Running in the Roar of the Wind", but it doesn't really work for me. it's not terrible but any means, but I think the last 2 tracks on the regular version of the album are probably the weakest songs, which is a bummer of a way to end a great album)
had to sell my saturday ticket for Jersey because i made travel plans but just scooped a pretty cheap resale for Friday night
"Running in the Roar of the Wind" is great lyrically, but the melody just isn't big enough to justify THAT title. I wanted a big bombastic anthem and it never finds that gear.
honestly, I've just been listening to the whole thing because I love this album, but 15 songs seems like a lot I'd probably go with "I Didn't Miss You (Until You Were Gone)" just because when I look at every other song on the album they all feel too essential to cut
