I think Hello Exile has 3-4 of the band's top songs but then the rest of the album really doesn't do it for me. Really the only one I'm sorta down on as a whole after finally coming around on Rented World
Spending more and more time with this, and in true Menzingers fashion, loving it more and more each listen.
Even though I don’t adore it yet. I’ve listened to it 20 times. About to boot it back up for a night time dog walk.
I feel like there’s no band on this site that gets criticized more for making music that’s “by the numbers” for them
I don't "love" it yet, but I am loving it. If that makes sense? Already connecting with it more than Rented World. Never could gel with that album, and only played it a few times since it came out.
I'm coming round to Running in the Roar of the Wind as a closer. I Didn't Miss You is weird, something about the vocals just feels off.
band used to be a big favorite of mine but i dont terribly like this record at all unfortunately, yet it seems one of the only songs im digging has been the most common least fav lol. i love i didnt miss you
I have to say I'm surprised about complaints this is a departure from their usual sound, firstly because I don't think it's much different and secondly because the songs I like least are the ones that sound the most like formula Menzingers.
i actually do like the sound and aesthetics of this album i just think the vocal writing is ridiculously weak by their standards unfortunately
gonna try and keep this from being super theory heavy but: feels like most of the vocal writing here is just rearrangements of the pentatonic scale which is just the notes of the major and minor triads plus the most stable step forward in a scale, so it unfortunately kinda feels like nothing is happening to me outside of a few songs. feels weird to say about this band given how sharp atp and hell even hello exiles melodies were but it is what it is
I do think it lacks some of the melodic immediacy of, say, After the Party, which I think is their peak in that regard.
Idk about music theory all I know is like five different songs from this album have been stuck in my head for days
I really like this record. I think it’s more consistent than RW & HE, even though I don’t think it has the big highs. I do miss when they had a bit more energy, but that’s normal as a band ages, I think.
Huh, interesting. "The older I get, the less I knoooow, and I knew nothing then" has been stuck in my head all morning.
