I honestly thought this band wasn't for me after the last two records, and those records definitely are not for me, but damn this one is hitting! Can't believe it's been nearly a decade since I was all over this band.
Yeah after a few listens, this is incredible. Right behind ATP and OTIP for me, but definitely think this one could surpass both with time
I absolutely hear it too. Vaguely reminds me of Waiting's verses. But then weirdly enough the drums on the verse remind me of the National.
I don't know as much about production as a lot of people here, but man, I just love how this record sounds. Everything sounds like it has room to tango with everything else, I love it
It’s truly an impossible task for most records by any artist to live up to OTIP. That After The Party does (for me, anyway) is just lightning striking twice. It doesn’t make it easy. It makes it almost MORE impossible to believe. They didn’t quite do that again but this is a fantastic record and that’s still a gift.
This is a nice listen but not really sucking me in like Hello Exile did. Starts great, gets iffy in the middle (really not getting the love for Ultraviolet) and comes around towards the end. Think Nobody Stays is my favourite on here. I'll keep going with it but at the very least it's a decent record.
I like take it to heart because it’s somewhat different. I didn’t miss you is menzingers by the numbers.
That's interesting, I think IDMY is sweet and has album closer kind of vibes. TITH I just find the chorus a bit lacklustre and repetitive.
I love running in the roar of the wind as the closer so that makes I didn’t miss you even less necessary to me.
The only song I am not crazy about is Love at the End, everything else is great and worthy of a space on the record imo
I like the album but I feel like the whole thing is mostly by the numbers Menzingers. *ducks and hides*
I said in the SLS thread that it was a great holdover (maybe more than that) until the Menzingers came out, and Jason mentioned them being a good yin/yang that operate in a similar soundscape. 100% agree, and it's telling that a lot of people feel the same way. Feels like AI wrote a Menzingers song. Menzingers by the numbers is good though? I don't think they've really changed up their sound much since at least ATP, it's just a matter of if the lyrics and hooks are hits or misses, or if the production works for the songs. Vast majority of the time it hits.
I for one am glad that generally speaking since On the Impossible Past this band has not changed things up a ton and have just put out amazing album after amazing album. I am comforted by the consistency and am glad that a band as great as this band is, is doing the thing they're great at. I'd take a dozen more albums of the Menzingers playing songs that sound like the Menzingers.
