I love the end of Try from the guitar solo onward. The little flourishes and Tom doing his thing *chef's kiss*
God I want the title track to be another two or three minutes longer, I absolutely adore that chorus.
Tom catches a lot of strays around these parts for typically being the lesser of this band’s two singers, so I’ll just say that “Portland” is the best song off Hello Exile.
I don't know if "Portland" is better than "Anna" or "Strain Your Memory," but it is probably my favorite Tom song since at least "Burn After Writing."
Greg’s songs are similar to his solo effort IMO. Appreciate the growth in song writing but man do I miss the narrative stories that really highlighted characters and places.
Tom is honestly my favorite of the two. About halfway through a distracted listen and I’m really enjoying it. The vocals stand out much more than their last few and it feels fresher than Hello Exile.
Absolutely not. High School Friend, Strangers Forever, America, Farewell Youth are the best songs on it. Last to Know is my favorite Tom song it. Portland rules though there’s just a ton of songs on that album that do
my first listen takeaway is that the high points on this are very easily the Tom songs. I love Alone in Dublin, might be my favorite Greg track on here. gonna need to give this one a little time. did not *love* it.
All of Hello Exile doesn't get enough credit honestly. And I know, I know, people don't like the production. But still.
I love the production on it the huge ass drums and echoey vocals really do it for me and I’m dead serious
