This album became my favorite of theirs today. I’ve decided. Also, For some reason, I just see this band as this generations The Replacements. Probably bc a lot of their songs remind me of “Bastards of Young” by The Replacements.
I relistened to this a couple of days ago and it's still so good. America is a top 3 Menzingers song of all time. And who cares if it's better than After the Party or not. Most bands would kill to put out a record this damn good.
Initially I didn’t love this record, but it’s really grown on me. All their other records were so immediate to me, so I wasn’t expecting this.
Really enjoy this record. Still don’t understand why they buried the vocals so much, but I listen to to this quite often.
Vocal mix has become less and less of an issue for me over time. I really love this record. Not quite as good as OTIP, but pretty damn close.
I don't see it on streaming but Last to Know was sent out as a pre-order download this morning. Really cool take on the song. It has this drum sample behind strings and an acoustic guitar. Not what I was expecting at all.
I didn’t realize ‘From Exile‘ comes out in less than a week. I’m so stoked! I thought it dropped in November, but that’s the vinyl!
I prefer this version of Last to Know to the original I think. Looking forward to hearing the full project.
oh nvm I was looking at the 'Hello Exile' release date in the title hah. i guess we don't really need two separate threads for this.
Loving the new version of Last To Know. it’s almost a year since we’ve had this album and it’s amazing. Maybe because I feel like I’m growing up with the band, but Hello Exile is definitely my favorite album from them front to back. I have a special connection with the album. When it came out, I’ll never forget winding down my training block for my big 100k marathon and just straight vibing to the album. Then once my painful day ended my wife and I drove home from the desert mountains at night eating our burritos, talked about the day, and listened to the album.
ATP was my real, true introduction to Menzingers but OTIP is far and away my favorite album. ATP was in constant rotation for the entire year of it's release, where as this one sort of came and went, but whenever I come back to it, it's on non-stop for those few days.
I was so disappointed by this record I haven't gone back to it since it first dropped. I am interested to hear the From Exile version though.
