Yo I was there too and I literally was texting my dad after the show about how shitty the crowd was. Band sounded good though, Tigers Jaw was good too. Kind of a strange setlist, but I dug it!
Never heard of either of them (I thought they might take Off With Their Heads given they share a label and put out albums around the same time), but I'll gladly take the opportunity to learn about new bands. Good places to start?
I love Mannequin Pussy's album from this year Patience. It got me super into them and the song Drunk II is arguably my song of the year. For SLS go right to Schmaltz it is fucking great. They are also super nice people! They let my friends and I go backstage and they all signed are Vinyl and we chatted about their 2020 new album.
I'd say Losers is SLS best song, and is their latest single, and then check out Schmaltz, their last album. A spectacular band.
I think their were at least double, maybe triple the people there at the Dallas show versus last tour (same venue). Great great show
I like to think I have pretty good ears and I swear to god I think these motherfuckers hid a xylophone deeeeeeep into the mix on Strawberry Mansion. You can hear it at 2:48 onward I swear its there.
Yeah Yip definitely put more of his trademark sounds into this one. That twinkly sound deep in the mix, and the vocal effect, remind me of the "dreamo" work that made Yip stand out.
They were even better live this time than they were last year. The special edition of Casey is incredible. Though what will it take for these guys to give me some Chamberlain Waits songs.
So this album is their most consistent since OTIP right? I'd argue even more consistent -- better closer, no Ava House (which I enjoy but it stands out as a weak spot on OTIP, especially given how it changes up the formula so much and just doesn't quite match the skyscraper-high quality of the surrounding tracks). Like I think the weakest moment here may be High School Friend which is also one of the catchiest songs and really sets the scene for the emotional wallop to come in Farewell Youth, thus making it pretty damn essential.
Hey if anyone wants a ticket to the show at Black Cat in D.C. on 12/4, hit me up. I just moved to Connecticut so I won't be able to use it. Want to give it away to someone that'll enjoy it rather than letting it go to waste. It's sold out so if you thought you missed the boat, here's your chance
Agreed on the driving comment. I listen to this on my drive home from work most days, and if I stop by a shop on the way I usually get in my front door as Farewell Youth finishes. This album gets better the more you listen.
Pretty much anyone who likes this should check out Stuck Out Here's latest album "Until We're Both Someone Else". Like a slightly scrappier and less polished Menzingers and it's fantastic.
So it appears the title track is the only song from HE that hasn't been played on this tour yet. I wonder if they plan to break it out before the tour is over, that has grown to become one of my favorites on the album.
I can't really see it going over well live for some reason but I'd absolutely love to see it. My fav track
