I played most of this album via the TouchTunes in a dive bar on Hollywood Blvd on Sunday night, and it made me feel so happy, even if nobody noticed haha. Something about “High School Friend” over the loudspeakers made me feel all warm inside. But that also could have been all the whiskey I was drinking.
I play this at work all the time but I always skip High School Friend cause of the swearing in the chorus, unless it's past 10 and there's nobody super old/underage in the bar
It reminds me a lot of Charlie’s Army in that it’s a song I can see myself skipping but it’s so catchy that I kinda can’t
I've listened to this at least thirty times straight through, so I'm gonna attempt to rank the songs. Keep in mind most of these are separated by barely anything: Strain Your Memory Hello Exile I Can't Stop Drinking Strawberry Mansion Anna America (You're Freaking Me Out) Portland London Drugs Farewell Youth Strangers Forever Last to Know High School Friend
You guys can take the end of Last to Know, we'll take the fade in on Strawberry Mansion, and then everyone's happy.
The end of Last To Know just gets too loud. I don't mind the effect itself. I think what I really need to do is sit down with lyrics in front of me. My most recent listen of this made me think it's going to cool on me, which I hope isn't the case.
I know people are generally liking the Tom songs more on this record than they have on past releases, but "Strawberry Mansion" and "Last to Know" are absolutely my bottom two. At least "Portland" is great.
I know this is blasphemous, but the only song I haven't come around on yet is I Can't Stop Drinking. I appreciate it more than I enjoy listening to it, I guess?
Last to Know gets great but that first verse is the worst. Title track is still my least favorite though.
Has anyone who preordered the vinyl heard absolutely anything on it? They sent me the initial email they were not receiving the Sunburst until Friday (of release week) and shipping out after that ... but nothing since.
I had Last to Know on at work and the end scared the shit out of some lady. Never really noticed it til then
