I hate that it's him or nothing with regards to whether or not Pitchfork cover a lot of bands that I like

 

The review is not well written at all, but there are parts I can agree with. I think this is a valid point that I was trying to get across with my initial criticism:

I had not yet realised how often they say "cheap" so can't wait for that to annoy me now thanks P4k

 

Often when an artist is a known quantity I feel like the tone of individual album reviews is somewhat predetermined, consciously or not

 

You guys can at least take solace in knowing that Ian Cohen also can't tell the vocalists apart.

 

Between that review and their EOTD lists, Pitchfork this week is reminding me why I don't take music recommendations from Pitchfork anymore.

 

There are many good picks on their EOTD list

 

I like this album well enough but I kind of agree with that review a lot honestly lol

 

I honestly don’t really read any reviews unless it’s front this site. Mainly because I trust them the most on here lol.

At times I’ll check out a couple YouTube reviews about an album to see how two reviewers thoughts contrast, but that’s about it.

Yeah, wow that pitchfork review is ass. I think this is becoming my favorite Menzingers record.

 

I still think that the point about the lyrics/song titles rings true. It's something that's bugged me since I heard "High School Friend" and "I Can't Stop Drinking"

 

Besides the dumb politics comment, that review is more or less how I feel about this album. It's the same Menzos formula with some minor instrumental tweaks and more on-the-nose lyrics. There are some good songs on here but honestly I haven't felt compelled to listen to the whole thing since release day. Which bums me out, because I love this band, but I don't see myself choosing to put this on when I could put on any of their other albums.

 

They got the lyric to I can't stop drinking wrong. :/

 

I can understand that complaint about High School Friend. I'm not sure it bothers me on I Can't Stop Drinking. Something about the plainspoken nature of the chorus in that song, the way it's so matter-of-fact, actually enhances the feeling for me. It's a painfully honest confession, and I think the simplistic nature of the line actually adds to that idea.

This album is miles better than tell all your friends

 

I agree except that I don’t see the problem with High School Friends either. So what if it’s on the nose.

 

WYWTB is miles better than this album, tbf.
