Strain Your Memory and Portland are still my two clear standouts. Album is growing on me, but some of the songs still don't really do much for me. I gotta say that the diamond/mining metaphor in "Strain" isn't really hitting for me either.
I'm finally getting around to listening to this after being busy the last week, and I'm a bit underwhelmed compared to how I view After the Party on first listen. Though I will say that the non-single tracks are a lot better than anticipated after how the singles went for me...
Yeah, this hit me harder than I expected it to, to the point where I would've liked a more equal split this time around.
It's def. not as immediate as ATP, but after two days this clicked for me and I think it could become my all time favorite Menzingers record.
I Can’t Stop Drinking might still be my favorite song on the album. I love the main guitar riff and the subtle hints of The Gaslight Anthem, The Animals, and even some Tom Petty.
i don't think i have a least favorite or stand out favorite yet, everything is still so new, but i really think Farewell Youth is gonna be my top song on this one. That or London Drugs.
Selfishly, I wish there were 2 or 3 bangers on this album BUT at the same time I think this is gonna be the "winter" menzingers album and I can vibe with the more laid back tone
really mad it still doesn't feel like fall in Alabama, would've loved to have had a first listen to this walking in some chilly air.
gosh. it's almost like people have different opinions. strawberry mansion, london drugs, and farewell youth tie up the album nicely. farewell youth might be the first menzos album closer that's on par with the track leading up to it. overall, it's a good album. probably a tier below atp and otip right there with cw and rw, but obviously i need more than one listen to determine that.
Whoever said that Strain Your Memory is this album's Your Wild Years is spot on. Your Wild Years is my favorite Menzingers song ever and I cannot stop listening to Strain Your Memory from this record. Easily my favorite track on an absolutely amazing record. I hope this band never stops.
the record is fine but would probably be better if it was like 15 minutes shorter. don't know what I'd cut but I don't feel like anything in particular is essential menzos for me so maybe shorter wouldn't necessarily change that
