Enjoying this more and more with each listen. Hello Exile, Last to Know and Strain Your Memory are my faves atm.
All i want to do is sing a harmony on the "hello exile" line for time in memoriam. The imagery in that song is really beautiful as well.
Said fuck it and downloaded this on my phone and I'm listening to random tracks by myself in a bar. London Drugs fucking rips
Finally giving this a listen (been pretty busy and have basically only listened to the new Bayside album all weekend). I enjoy the songs, but definitely am not a big fan of the production on first listen. Vocal sound pretty muffled to me, especially on the title track. Probably won't interfere with my enjoyment in the long run, once I know all the lyrics, but it's pretty noticeable for me right now
After driving around northern Michigan with this bad boy all weekend, I can definitely say I love it and it has some of the band’s best songwriting to date. It’s wild to think this could challenge OTIP and ATP for me, but it honestly might in time. Very happy to have this band and another wonderful album.
That’s so dope! I remember when the band asked Mark to give ATP a listen and then he did! I remember him digging it.
Last to Know didn’t make that much of an impression on me at first, but I think it’s my favourite now!
In mild defence of Will Yip, there's a few production decisions that I think are good but not executed well because of bad diction. The suddenly loud bit in Strawberry Mansion is a good example: Tom is concentrating on singing loud rather than clearly, and it comes across badly as a result. But the actual idea is solid. And yes, I am aware of the irony of complaining about diction in the punk genre.
Strawberry Mansion is the only song that the production really bothers me. I can hardly make out the lyrics at some points.
I feel like Last to Know is the one song here I'm not fully into. Everything else has clicked and I love it all, but that one is towards the bottom for me. Glad to see a lot of people loving it though.
I'm hoping this grows on me but the slow songs feel very samey after a few listens, and the record's a bit too long for my liking.
so my mystery package is not this after all - the tracking # says the package originated in Texas, and my order status for this does say it shipped, but from Los Angeles. what the hell am i getting in the mail today ????
I've had a different favorite song every time I've listened so far (which has been roughly 10 times) I said the title track was probably my least favorite the first few listens but now it's hitting me really hard each listen "In a vacation town where I lived year round She migrated here with the summer crowds And we fell in love under impossible smiles Life was perfect if just for a little while" That just hits me super hard for some reason The anticipation is killing me
At the moment there's no song that jumps at me like Your Wild Years, ATP or Lookers did but I can easily see position being filled by a few tracks on here as time goes on, especially tracks like America, Anna, Strangers, Strain Your Memory, High School Friend, Farewell Youth... this is just a solid record. As usual Tom's parts are my least favorite but Last to Know and Portland are probably my two favorite Tom tracks that aren't Thick as Thieves. Very, very happy with this record, and being a pretty new Menz fan I am feeling pretty pumped up rn
