Album wasn't what I was expecting, but that's not a bad thing. This is definitely not a dialed in Menzingers album either. We got something different from these guys. I'd say this is a change of pace for them, for sure. It has some darker undertones with a few of those classic raging Menzingers songs. Adding "The Freaks" and "No Penance" to the track listing works well too. I enjoyed the 3 pre-released songs, but "I Cant Stop Drinking" was a major standout for me on first listen. What a song! Love that opening guitar riff. It reminds me of The Gaslight Anthem and The Animals. I really liked 'Portland', 'High School Forever', and 'Strain Your Memory' too. The album will be a grower, but that's not a bad thing. I think it'll be a pretty great fall album too.
Was going to check this out today but kind of can't summon the will to do it. Was really encouraged last weekend by their response to the allegations against Tony, and when Tom said his DMs were open I thought this might actually be a way for the band to definitively find out about the Culture Abuse allegations and respond to it, but it's been almost a week now and we haven't heard anything. So I don't know how to feel about this band right now and it's really difficult to work out these feelings because of how atypical of a situation this is (the allegations got no traction on social media so the band couldn't have known beforehand and there's no way of knowing if the band has seen the messages people have sent them about it or not). Idk, sorry for derailing the thread again but I don't know where else to say any of this tbh.
I'm sort of assuming there are contractual reasons. Tigers Jaw are also on the tour and I'm pretty sure Brianna would have a lot to say about it if they could?
High School Friend is so relatable... "We left town the minute we turned 18 We moved to different corners of the country Now we come back for holidays and funerals So much has changed but Wayne county’s still the same" Story of me and my friends leaving small-town MI.
Yeah, after multiple listens. America and Anna are definitely the by the books Menzingers songs and don’t really fit in with the rest of the album in my opinion. Strangers fits in well with the track listing. This album is not bad by any means. I’d give it a 4 out of 5.
I feel like there’s a fantastic Menzingers album playing in the next room, even though I’m sitting not to far from my speakers.
Only on track 2 so far but I reeeeeeeeally don't like how they produced the vocals on this thing, sounds like it was recorded inside a bathtub
High School Friend would be relatable if I talked to a single person from high school still I like what I hear so far on this record, except I think America is my least favorite Menzingers song
Pretty much have been avoiding listening to this because of the whole Culture Abuse issue.. Would really like to, but just haven't been able to convince myself its worth getting into it at this time.
Is that who produced it? Makes sense. I really haven't kept tabs on The Menzingers since Rented World came out so i'm going into this with no info lol Yip's style doesn't work with this type of music at all
Woah, this is a firey take. I think it's one of the strongest on the album and super relatable to how a lot of people feel about the current state of our country right now.
Yeah I have absolutely no problem hearing the vocals, if anything, the guitars sound a little drowned out in places
I love Strawberry Mansion, but really don't like the fade-in right during the bridge, seems super sloppy
I was just listening to that song and thinking how much it bothers me. Such an unnecessary production choice.
Yip did After The Party, and to me adapted to the band. Amazing record on all fronts. The music on this is fantastic. It a little hard to hear the lyrics. I get a different tone of record can have a different production sound, but why does it have to be the Will Yip sound. Wish they had found that happy balance. The music is so good so I like the album and will listen to it. There is just that “ugh, I wish” factor.
Don't understand it either, just have the song explode back in, or have the second half of the phrase be loud and then have the guitars come in.
