The back half of this is so good. Strain Your Memory is still my favorite after 5 or 6 listens. And whoever said I Cant Stop Drinking is a Chris Stapleton song is spot on. Mean that in the best way possible.
Never thought my takeaway from the new Menzingers record thread would be "I need to check out Chris Stapleton" but here we are.
Really like strangers forever in the track list. Was off base on that track previously. Portland is the only thing that hasn’t hit for me.
Weird how we're getting "menzingers by the numbers" and then comments about how it's way more mid-tempo. It can't be both lol
It's definitely not Menzinger's by the numbers. Very obviously different sounding at first listen. My current gripes would come with the production, and the somewhat "same-ness" of it. But there's some obviously stand out tracks, and I'm excited to keep listening. And to get home to my vinyl eventually.
The Tom songs here are my favorite Tom songs ever. EDIT: Anyone else hear "My inner monologue is Brian" on SF? Just me?
Tom's songs have been fantastic for this and ATP. Think it's because he's had less songs that he's probably put a lot more into them. Jolly good show
Anyway, the more I listen the more I obviously latch on to certain parts of the record. It isn’t bad by any means, it’s just the first time that a Menzo record didn’t knock me off my feet on first listen. Even Rented World had Rodent and My Friend Kyle
America has really grown on me. I feel like I'm going to enjoy this entire record a lot more when the songs have all settled in with the rest of the Menzos on shuffle
Defo feel that this record is a grower. Been lukewarm on most of it so far but America, Anna and Strangers Forever grew on me SO much over the weeks after they were released. Gonna give it some time before I collect my thoughts on it
I just find the majority of that album to be forgettable. It's not "bad", it just isn't what I want out of a Menzingers record.
"May the highways cross their fingers and hope That we may one day find ourselves home" Such a great line EDIT: "The grief starts when bumping into friends turned acquaintances We stumble around the small talk We break the silence with Jameson But once we were inseparable We were the only punks in town We spent every weekend raisin’ hell in the basement of your parents house But we’re older now" Yeah this song hits a lot harder sitting with lyrics.
Today’s the first chilly fall morning we’ve had and it goes perfectly with this album. I’m going to have it on repeat.
Need to listen with lyrics but first couple listens through I’m underwhelmed. It’s okay. I hope it grows on me but it’s the first time I haven’t been floored first listens through a Menzingers album
