I get what you're trying to do bud, but idk what good posting X weeks every monday is doing? You and me and a few others have tried DMing and @ing them, I think it's safe to say at this point they're not doing anything about it and the tour is happening
Yeah if not for this thread I'd have no idea about any accusations and I'm pretty sure the band doesn't either. I just tried looking it up and Google came up completely empty -- just stories about Culture Abuse accusing From First to Last of stealing their cover art. The accusations never gained traction and that of course does not mean they are untrue, but it does mean I'm giving the Menzingers the benefit of the doubt. I don't believe they knew about any accusations before bringing Culture Abuse on tour (why would they then bring them in that case -- even a band full of assholes which the Menzingers are decidedly not would avoid that controversy). Worst-case scenario, the Menzingers have heard about the accusations by now. How can they really investigate them?
Many, many, many bands (full of assholes or otherwise) have taken problematic bands out on tour and not given a single shit about any previous allegations, but I think you’re probably right correct in saying they aren’t aware of these in particular.
For someone who has to post a weekly reminder, it sounds like you truly care about this situation and would like for it to get resolved as quickly as possible. But if all you do is message some of the band’s accounts, post a weekly reminder in a message board thread and then tell yourself “That’s it, there’s nothing much else I can do,” it also doesn’t really sound like you’re trying. Because convincing yourself that that is the most you can do, is just an excuse to make yourself feel good about what actual little you’ve done. They’ve made it quite clear that they are still on the bill for this tour. Maybe try going to a venue in person, try to contacting everyone associated with the bands (managers, merch people, labels, agents). Maybe contact different music news outlets, bring it to their attention. I’m tired of seeing people think that only doing something quickly, and easily, from a phone or a computer is actually helping anything. It is not causing change, acting upon something is what causes change to happen. Yes, there have been times that a status or a tweet causes a conversation, to happen, which then leads to the situation being acted upon. But that’s no excuse to just do the bare minimal. And no, I haven’t done anything at all, because I honestly just don’t care. Of course it sucks that the dude is a piece of shit and he’s not getting any consequences for his actions. And of course it also sucks that The Menzingers could be, unknowingly, providing a platform to a terrible person. But there’s constantly terrible shit going on all over the world. But I guess out of sight, out of mind. No one wants to admit that, but it’s the fucking truth. I would be going above and beyond to make sure this dude was getting his due if he had done what he did to let’s say, my sister. Why? Because it affects me and my life personally. But this situation doesn’t affect me at all. So I’m going to not care. That’s just the way we are as people. Every week you post a reminder. And it just gets pushed to the side and buried under everyone else’s comments about the singles, Greg’s vocal effect, or Will Yip’s production style. And everyone else posting in here sees your comments too, but they choose to just simply scroll past it and keep a conversation about the band going. It sucks that’s the band has let you down, but it’s definitely not true. Every time someone scrolls past your reminder, they’re saying that they do not care about these allegations, and that they do not care that they’re are opening these shows, and that knowing all of this, they are still going to listen to and support The Menzingers. Recently, I’ve seen it in the Blink-182 thread about their collaboration with XXXTentacoin. Some comments about it, and then everyone just goes back to talking about the new album. And today in the New Found Glory thread with Chad grooming Haley and being a creep, and treating her terribly ever since the beginning of their relationship. And how miserable she was. Yet people scroll past it, and just post about how their in the studio and can’t wait for the new album. Hell, the studio post even got posted on the main page of this site. So let’s just admit it. At the end of the day, when these situations arise and we have to make a decision on whether we’re going to “cancel” an artist or keep listening to them, we are going to either to do what is considered the right thing to do. Or we are going to ignore the problem, look always, and go on with our lives.
Of course they weren’t aware of them when they booked the tour. Nobody seriously thinks they were, there’s almost no way they could have been. The problem is it’s been eight weeks and I guarantee that the people in this thread aren’t the only ones who have tried to contact the band with these allegations. It gets to a point where unless they have someone just deleting all of their DMs on all of their accounts without looking at them, they’ve learned about it.
Yeesh. All I can think is that the band/members don't check their DMs. Either that or they're ignoring it or there's not enough information to cut the band from the tour. Idk, it's lame and if I do choose to go to this concert I'll go late. I probably won't wind up going at all, tbh
Honestly I thought about going to the show and standing with my back to CA, or making a sign of some kind, but I’d have to pay to do that and I don’t want any of my money going to that band.
I’m personally avoiding this tour because of it, but (and this is probably because of my internal bias for this band and what I anecdotally know of them as people from prior interactions) I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt that they personally still aren’t aware of these accusations, which I do still think is a real possibility. I hope someone who runs into the guys on this tour speaks to them face to face about it.
Yeah, I won't be going to the tour since CA will get some of that, which sucks cause im really looking forward to seeing America live, but whatever worth it
Avoiding this tour but continuing to support the Menzingers provided they make better choices, as they always have throughout their entire career to my knowledge, seems like a sensible course of action. They seem like good people with their hearts in the right place which makes me think they either a) still don't know, or b) have their hands tied somewhat (not sure what the legal ramifications of kicking a band off a tour without concrete evidence to back up any claims about said band and/or members thereof would be, but there could certainly be some). I wouldn't attend this tour but I am still very excited for the new album and hope the band does its homework very thoroughly before booking support acts in the future. If they do, I would love to see them live one day.
To criticize someone who is successfully spreading allegations about a shitty band on a forum as “not doing enough” and then following that rant up with “and no, I haven’t done anything at all because I really just don’t care” is quite the stance.
These singles aren’t clicking like the last album for me. Also surprised we’ve gotten 3 Greg’s. Maybe Tom will bowl me over with his tracks.
Really weird to get 3 Greg songs and no Tom ones. This will have to grow on me, but the good news is that I don’t notice the vocal effects that hindered the other two, or maybe I’m getting used to it.
