Oh my gosh I can't believe they played at Bell's! Also never thought I'd encounter someone else on Chorus who lives in Kzoo (and calls Kalamazoo, Kzoo). Awesome. Speaking of beer, Pyramid Scheme has $2 Hamms so I was happy on that front.
Bell's show was a blast. I think they said they intentionally scheduled it so they had an excuse to hang out at the Brewery all day lol. I think there's a few of us from West MI on here. I'm in my final week in Kzoo before moving to Denver though.
Oh cool! Did you go to WMU or K College? Yeah I really like it, but the funny thing is I've never really dug into the local music scene there even though it's pretty substantial. Lots of good beer and natural areas to check out which are my go-tos. RepresentBummer on the show...I didn't go because I didn't know it was happening haha! That happened with the Frank Turner show there too and then by the time I found out it was sold out.
I live in Battle Creek and am so mad I missed them in Kzoo. I wanna catch them with TJ in Detroit later though.. man I hope I can go.
WMU! I only got really into the music scene my last year of school, because I was the arts and entertainment editor for the Western Herald. It was surprising to me how much stuff was going on/how many venues there were. And of course, the beer is world class. The Beer Exchange is my favorite bar on the planet.
The DIY/house show scene in Kzoo is definitely a hidden gem. For a city of this size, there’s a lot going on. @Craig Manning one of my good friends writes for the Western Herald and loves it. WIDR is also a great resource for music in town.
I love that place! It was the first bar that I went to after I moved here and it's where my friends will be taking me for my going away dinner next week.
I have a lot of great memories from my time at the Herald. Pretty formative for what I ended up doing for a career. I'm glad it's still going. It's future was a bit in doubt my last year there. One time during the winter of my senior year, my roommate and I went there every night for a week straight. We were feeling the winter blues and the Beer Exchange definitely helped.
Ive been off the stage for like 5 years and I keep wanting to find a place to play acoustic shit. I need to go to Kzoo more. Too much of a hermit these days.
Anna is still great. I’m anxiously awaiting the advances to send out so I can get myself overly more pumped for like any little detail.
it's weird, i just have no worry about this. It's like I just know its going to be great so I can just wait patiently for it to become available.
