interesting how much quieter folks are about this stuff when it's a band they are attached to rather than one they like to dunk on
Anyone in Milwaukee interested in 2 tickets for face value for Saturday? I have a conflict and won't be able to drive up from Chicago to make the show. Feel free to reply or PM me.
Why The Menzingers Are Getting Dark On New Album Hello Exile — Kerrang! New Kerrang interview and feature about the new album.
That interview is great. Based off Greg's descriptions this is the exact album I really want to hear from them. October seems like the perfect time to release an album with the lyrical content and darker ideas Greg describes. "what kind of monsters did our parents vote for?" is already playing in my head with Greg's vocals.
They freaking killed last night (my first time seeing them live) in Grand Rapids!! Wowowow so much fun, crowd was absolutely nuts the whole set and it was a sold out show. They came back out for an encore and it actually seemed like they weren't expecting to--Greg said "we have two more songs and we don't know what they are" lol. Also definitely gonna be checking out Queen of Jeans more.
I reserve my favorite live show being Gaslight Anthem due to the now spectacle of seeing them live (and Gaslight is my favorite band), however, I've seen the Menzingers like 7 or 8 times now and every single time they absolutely kill it. They're unbelievable. The crowd is always so intense. The songs transfer live exceptionally well. I love this band so, so much. Probably the best live band.
I remember randomly winning concert tickets to see Gaslight Anthem at this unique outdoor venue in Kalamazoo (check out the pics from the venue if you want) which, if you know where that is, made it even cooler because I never expected them to play there. So that was certainly a great memory.
Also, whoever said that Tom songs make you wan to get drunk with your best friends and sing along, and Greg songs are like when you pull in the driveway after work and smoke a bowl--spot on, that def clicked for me seeing them last night
I think I saw Queen of Jeans on the Balance/From Indian Lakes show a couple years ago, and they ruled.
Show was very fun last night, but it'd be cool if some of the dudebros in the crowd could not go *quite* that hard during After The Party and In Remission
So In Remission is their go-to set closer yeah? (I've never seen them, curse living nowhere near shows, would absolutely love to see them asap) Is that therefore their most popular song would you say? Or do they just like closing the shows by screaming OH YEAHHH which would be completely understandable lol
It’s definitely the staple closer. They’ve played around here and there but it’s the best closer to end a show! I would say it’s reaction is maybe a hint below Asshole as that gets the biggest reaction.
That's interesting. I don't love Rented World as much as the other records. But I have always really loved Asshole and In Remission. They instantly felt like the songs I wanted after OTIP, that classic Menzingers sound with a new twist. Whereas much of RW felt like it twisted too far from OTIP for my tastes (even though I still enjoyed it for what it was). I'm glad those two tracks have become really important for the band.
Glad to hear they killed it in GR! I wanted to make the trip up from Kzoo but was too busy with work and packing to move. Saw them at Bell's last year and they mentioned how much they love playing in West Michigan. Mainly for the beer I assume haha.
Had a dream last night where Greg and Tom switched places on stage and immediately had to listen to Anna this morning.
In September they're playing the Sing Out Loud festival in St Augustine here in Florida. It's a free festival and Hot Water Music is playing too (among a bunch of others). Lineup | Sing Out Loud Festival – A St. Augustine Celebration of Music
