IK! I can tell them apart quite clearly. Was more of a comment on the current state of the thread haha
Now if people said they couldn't tell the difference between Greg and Dylan (Spanish Love Songs) I would understand
While I don't agree with the specific calling out nature of the take on Twitter... I definitely think that After the Party is my least favourite Menzo record of the past 4 by a big margin, and that's with it actually starting to grow on me recently. I also like The '59 Sound 10x more than any other Gaslight record. I don't really get much out of the others. I know those are some piping hot takes but they're just true for me! If I had to rank: OTIP>RW>CW>>>ATP(+bsides) Anna is great though!
I feel anyone who's actually listened to SLS a significant amount knows this isn't true. The similarities end at the vocals
Y'all are forgetting A Lesson In Abuse which while definitely not as good as the other still has some really good tracks Alpha Kappa, Sir Yes Sir and the title track are all top tier. As well as The Clash cover
I mean if you have to listen to Spanish Love Songs a significant amount to discern them from the Menzingers, then it’s probably true that they sound like the Menzingers. Which they do
I'm a Menzingers anarachist apparently cause I'd rank them ATP>RW>CW>OTIP And OTIP is the album that got me into the band too haha
It’s not a diss to say most casual listeners would find a similarity between two artists. Most people can’t tell most music in the same genre apart without deep study.
RW > OTIP > CW = ATP After the Party has a lot of my fav Menz songs but i never feel desire to spin it front to back, i go back to it for different songs at different times. Rented World and OTIP almost demand i listen all the way through.
there is also bias in there because RW Menz is the peak of my fandom with them and in the top three of times i was super into a band overall
Menz are dramatically better writers than SLS and Greg's range dwarfs Dylan's. SLS' new songs sound no different than Schmaltz. i like them but they've got a lot to do to get in this conversation for me
