Definitely the right time for a new album. I know they're confirmed for Slam Dunk in May but otherwise I think they are free from tour dates too.
Definitely was anticipating an album this year and was thinking late summer/fall. They just wrapped up their tour in December so I assumed they would start writing/recording this winter. But I mean … if it’s sooner that’s sweet lol
If their "every other album* is great" thing continues, this should be a good one. *Post OTIP, Chamberlain is great too
I can at least acknowledge Rented World and Hello Exile are inferior to OTIP and ATP, but they’re still great.
They have not even started recording a new album to my knowledge Probably dropping leftover tour merch from the OTIP tour
Hello Exile is a lot better than Rented World, to me it's their least enjoyable overall despite having maybe their best song lol
The Future Is Cancelled > OTIP > ATP > Chamberlain Waits > The King of No Man > Rented World > ALITAOIT> Hello Exile > The Animals Are Out
exposing myself as a fraud, never listened to anything before After the Party. I think I started OtIP but didn't get very far, vocals are so very rough and raw compared to AtP and HE. Maybe that's the draw tho
Rented World is easily their best overall record imo, a no skipper whenever I play it. They fell off after that for me. ATP is like 2/3 great but the middle lags. They really lost their edge on Hello Exile and I dont think I've listened to it since it came out. Kinda feels like a parody of themselves if that makes sense.
TFIC is comfortably in my top five albums of all time. I listened to it at least once a week for so long.
On The Impossible Past was a life changing record for me. So it’s weird than they would then release After The Party years later that would do the impossible and actually come close to it. RW and HE are very good records, but not on the level of those two imo.
I love Rented World, but I think that was the album where Greg’s songs really overshadowed Tom’s songs by a significant margin. (I still like Tom’s songs and I like this album)
