Speaking of Hello Exile, do they plan on releasing any bsides (aside from From Exile) for this record?
There is one B-side that they have listed on their patreon they will release at 1000 subscribers (which isn't gonna happen) so hopefully they release it soon lol
I remember they had a high price point for theirs so I can see why 1,000 would be a hard mark to hit. Toy Soldier and The Freaks are awesome, and getting Cemetery’s Garden/No Penance after that as ATP was such a nice surprise. Maybe they’ll eventually add that HE bside to bandcamp or something and make off it that way. Im curious to find out the number of tracks on Roses too. Didn’t see anything on Epitaphs sit the other day.
$5 is the cheapest which isn't bad... just an unrealistic number for any band I think. They'll probably drop it soon! Greg tracklist 01. Oh Lord, What Do You Know? 02. Driving Through the Night 03. The First Dead Body I Ever Saw 04. No Peace of Mind to Rest 05. Talking to Your Tombstone 06. Don’t Go Throwing Roses In My Grave 07. Hurry Me Down to Hades 08. Anthem For the One I Love 09. At a Greyhound Station, Desperate 10. Guest In Your House
I thought it was like $30 or something. Maybe that was just the top tier or something. I only remember seeing it when announced. Those songs titles are pretty heavy on Roses. That opening riff is in my head
They played Farewell Youth for the second time ever Saturday, was very stoked to see that! Officially have seen the whole album live now. They also busted Time Tables and Ava House out for the first time in awhile. Had a very good time
That’s all I needed to know (because that’s what I was assuming). Really looking forward to it. Seems like a natural step if he was going to do a solo record. So do The Menzingers have any 2022 release plans?
I'm assuming they will probably write this Winter and maybe record after a Spring tour so probably not until 2023
I don’t know anything about them releasing anything in 2022, but I’d probably say 2023 for something new from them. Vinyl delays and such. I don’t think they’re going to bust out an album on the next two months and have it turned in.
Have they announced who’s opening for them at Crossroads? Or is it just them? Heavily considering flying out for a show to use up my PTO for the year and was curious.
That seems like a long while away. Maybe they’ll do some kind of smaller release like singles or something in 2022, because we have Greg’s album as mentioned. A little something would be nice, even if they wait until 2023 to debut an album and tour it.
My expectation is that a new record will be planned for 2023. Greg album and tour for the early part of the year. And then I would imagine the band does some US/UK and EU/maybe Australia stuff in the spring and summer. Maybe get some festival money late summer and then do a fall tour that ends with Scranton and Philly shows. I’d take a stab at saying recording in early 2023 and then the album sometime after based on vinyl delays and an Epitaph rollout. Would imagine they go with Will again since they are comfortable with him and his studio is close proximity.
That’ll be 4 years or less between albums (ignoring from From Exile). Some thing small as “The Menzingers” to bridge the gap wouldn’t be a bad thing, although I do think most people would check out Greg’s album. Maybe they have a few Bsides or a single or something they can put out.
its almost like a global pandemic isnt a good enough reason to have a slightly longer than usual gap between releases
Aside from the pandemic, which is a lot I also think the band is getting to a point where it’s naturally going to take longer between albums. Marriages and possibly kids will be in the mix, along with other businesses and solo careers. I also think the band is close to the point where they don’t need to grind out “every two year cycles” anymore. That stuff takes a toll and the pandemic granted the members a chance to step outside of that, which I think is pretty healthy. I think the band is pretty close to reaching cruising altitude, where the band doesn’t need to be super active all of the time. I’m not saying the band won’t do a quick cycle again bc it does feel natural to them, but it wouldn’t shock me if they didn’t either.
I get this is weird times. I do think creating bridges or finding simple ways to fill the voids are clever. Weddings gotta get paid for and kids need to be fed. The 2 year album cycle can become tough in those in between years. Things like dropping the two ATP bsides was clever because the work was already done, but it gave fans something buy and buzz over. I wonder if working on Patreon content is also a burn out factor for bands. I have no basis for this other than I think it could get tiring because it’s still making content, even if it’s not new songs. Either way, new Greg solo which seems pretty awesome and I’ll be excited for new stuff in 2023 if that’s when something comes out.
