RW is my least favorite of the last four by a pretty wide margin. I've come around on this band being one of the greats now tho so it's not like that's a knock on the album
I listened to the whole discography in a row the other night and it was a wild ride. I'm happy that I've gotten to grow alongside this band. ATP definitely seems like more of a step back to where they could have gone after OTIP rather than after RW.
Anyone else really like this line from Thick As Thieves? "I was there when the wall fell down. I'll be there when the ocean rises." Like, a lot has happened in 30 years.
Are people still hating on 'Livin' Ain't Easy'? The verses of that song are incredible, I just love it's kind of...bounce? If that's the right word? Similar to Fireworks' 'Teeth'.
Continental breakfast is the l-l-l-l-lobby But they're always out of c-c-c-c-coffee Is one of the catchiest lines. I love that song
Those would be in my next three or four (after Asshole and In Remission). I'd add Where Your Heartache Exists too, and perhaps even the closer. But I love so many of their other songs I couldn't fit those RW tracks in I don't think. I'll have a go, top 15, in order of when they came out (easier to think of them that way): Time Tables Rivalries Chamberlain Waits The Obituaries Gates Sculpturs and Vandals Mexican Guitars Casey I Can't Seem To Tell I Don't Wanna Be An Asshole Anymore In Remission Lookers Midwestern States Your Wild Years After the Party That was really quick off the top of my head. Those songs are definitely above any others from RW for mine. Probably others too, such as I Was Born, Good Things and Bad Catholics.
Just here to chime in with their discography is pretty much great through out and I'm positive RW will be seen pretty much equally in time since it seems that's not true currently
I like Rented World but I'm glad they went back to more of an OTIP sound for the new one and the result shows that's pretty much their musical sweet spot. Rented World is an interesting listen due to its variation but that does end up producing some songs I can't get into. Bad Things is my least favourite Menzingers song.
I think I could easily say my least favorite song is anything off of their first album, but if you discount that, I don't really have one. I think the variation of Rented World, even the weakest song on it (I'm not sure which track I'd give that designation, if any). But I think it's fair to say they're at their collective best when they're all working on a theme, yeah
Rented World has Transient Love which is just one of the best things ever, but it's probably on equal footing with ATP right now for me. About an equal amount of songs I love/like on each. But ATP needs alot more time. So far the singles are still the strongest IMO, along with Tellin Lies. Lookers is still such a banger.
Joe recently took over the band twitter handle to answer some fan questions. His favorite song the band has written is Heartache.
All the time. They take three or four posts in a thread and combine them to, almost, make it look real.
A lot of folks have been getting Green Day vibes with ATP and I just don't hear it. I don't find it to be completely off base, but I don't find it to be as clear as others have been letting on.
