This album is one giant earworm. I wake up singing it every morning. Love the way Greg rolls his vocal in the verses of After the Party. I don't dig most of the Tom songs (so far) on RW and OTIP but he really has some gems on this.
me vs the highway and I'll say my best years may still be ahead of me on another note boy blue and house on fire fuckin rock. Not huuuugely keen on thick as thieves or the bars but still like them a fair amount
Thick As Thieves has topped Burn After Writing as my favorite Tom song. Your Wild Years has topped Gates as my overall favorite song.
After about 10 listens of this record I can say that When You Died is still the only The Menzingers song I dislike
I feel the same way about this album vs OTIP as I do about Cody vs Never Hungover Again - ATP/Cody are way more consistent and as a whole just so goddamn good, whereas while OTIP/NHA have some duds their highs are higher. Either way right now I'd really struggle to say which of them I actually like better.
I put on the Japandroids album today, and while i love that album, I just thought through the first 3 tracks "i should instead put on the Menzingers". And I did just that. It was a party in my car.
I often get a song stuck in my head and sing it around the house constantly, thus driving my wife nuts. With this one it's been a different chorus each day because every song is so catchy. That's going over better than usual haha.
In Your Wild Years, I wonder if the "we drove up to Massachusetts together" line, along with "souvenirs of happiness in the moment" is not only harkening back to Gates' "Happiness is just a moment" line, but also to In Remission's "You got a winning lotto ticket from the state of Massachusetts" line? Lotto tickets certainly fit the bill of happiness in the moment by my account lol.
So much going on in this thread so many I missed it, but did anyone catch any literary allusions on this album? I haven't had time to sit down with the lyrics yet. They keep topping every previous release and I'm totally fine with that. These guys are unstoppable.
Havnt been posting as much as I like the past couple weeks but I just wanna come in here and say: The Menzingers have done it yet again.
reference to hemingway on charlie's army (we were day drinking in brooklyn/it was death in the afternoon). I take back a comment I previously made where I said the album would't be worse without House on Fire. Now I like that song as much as the others. What a fucking record.
It's really just me who hear New Found Glory in guitars?like a switched from the sample of the new NFG song right to Thick as Thieves and it was so obvious.nothing wrong with that,I love this record so fucking much, just found that curious, and wanted know if is it really just me
I'm thinking it's at least plausible, since the character in In Remission might not actually cash that ticket because the cashier views it skeptically as to "why it's torn and busted up".
yeah I have no desire to revisit that japandroids album unfortunately after listening to after the party
I have to get back to Japandroids. The first 3 songs immediately grabbed me but the Menz took over before I really gave the rest a chance
I went inside the house and heated up leftover spaghetti for lunch with some LaCroix. Arguably the real party.
