Halfway thru my first listen and ... this is just what I needed. Insane stress in my personal life, insane stress from Trump, insane stress from health issues and this is making everything better right now to the point I'm getting really emotional as silly as that may seem. God, I freaking love and need this band.
Didn't realize this was officially out now! Bout to listen let's goooooo EDIT: Fuck this is already awesome.
Record is fantastic, really has grown on me a lot. Green Day vibes are only stronger with each listen, but it's not the worst direction they could have gone in by any means. Hoping they return to a little more groove-based stuff (like Transient Love) in the future.
The vocals on this album are just so fucking good also they're doing a live stream on facebook at 10am PST (6pm GMT) so that's pretty hype
really liking this album a lot. as bits of the lyrics resonate i like it even more. only criticism really is the fade outs, but that's just because i really don't like fade outs. sometimes it makes sense, but most of the time not a fan. doesn't hurt the song itself though, just personal preference.
Here's my review The Menzingers - After the Party • chorus.fm Pretty sure I screwed up some the vocal attribution
This is a fucking great record. Jesus. The hype that built up around this was almost too much, but they really nailed it. @Michael Schmidt I ended up having to wait for this too. Mainly because I'm out of the loop and don't know how to utilize websites for leaks haha. I think it was worth the wait though.
Listening to this for the first time and I'm alone in my lab. If anyone comes in for office hours and thinks I'm gonna turn it off to take their statistics questions, they're sorely mistaken.
podcast got me pumped and probably gonna listen to this 2-3 more times today than I previously planned. Not enough talk about how incredible Lookers (still) is; but I really liked touching on the point that it's definitely a song I would include into a "this is what I listen to" mix
According to last.fm, I've listened to it only 25 times; I find it hard to believe it's that low, but I'm not even close to tired of it.
I realised what bugs me about Charlie's Army - there's just way too much namedropping, feels a bit ham-fisted. Like, jesus, how many times is he gonna repeat ex-boyfriend/julie(t)/charlie? Would've been better to keep that to a minimum. Bit frustrating cus the verses are mostly just so fucking good. "When I first met her I fell in love, she smiled because she knew. We were day drinking in Brooklyn, it was death in the afternoon, yeah" just puts a massive smile on my face
Charlie's Army is almost a lyrical extension of The Dirty Nil's "Wrestle Yu to Husker Dü" and "Violent Hands". Love it.
