Living vicariously through this album's nostalgic reminiscence of American twenties life, despite barely being 20 and from the UK. The university line in Midwestern States is so relatable though, and that chorus is so so so good!
Any b sides for this album. There was mention of a covers EP (don't know if it's what they released last yearn on sound cloud or not).
The covers record is for folks who purchased VIP tickets to the tour. I believe it is getting emailed to those people in tandem with the record tomorrow, so we should have something then. It's 4 covers, one picked by each member of the band, separate from the couple they did for St. Patricks Day last year.
Love Thick as Thieves so much. I was there when the wall fell down I'll be there when the ocean rises
Someone with better knowledge of the band than me, could you point out a song each of them sing? I have such a hard time telling as they kind of sound the same to me haha
After two solid listens, I'd say my favorite tracks are The Bars, Midwestern States, Lookers, and Your Wild Years. The Bars is easily a top five Menzingers song already for me. I'm already so excited about what they're going play from the new album live on their tour.
Early favorites right now are Tellin' Lies, Lookers, Midwestern States, and After The Party. The first four or five songs on this album just rip straight through you so fast that you don't even realize you're halfway through the album by the time Black Mass comes on
Spending two days with this and listening through nice headphones, while driving, using iPhone headphones, walking, listening at night, midday, and morning...there's just so much here to enjoy. Certain songs work great at different times and hit you at different moments each listen. I still haven't made out really much of the lyrics for Tom's songs so it's going to be so fun to get the lyrics and really dive in. Also. When that slow bridge part in Tellin' Lies comes in it gets me every time.
If Charlie's Army doesn't become a set staple I'll fuckin' riot dudes. CHARLIES ARMIES COMING FOR MEEEEE, HE SAYS BOY YOURE GON BE SORRY.
So what songs are they going to play on tour? I really hope they play more than half the album but I doubt it. I would say Tellin' Lies, Thick As Thieves, Lookers, Midwestern States, Bad Catholics and After The Party are locks but there's so much more I want to hear.
Charlie's Army is fun but the lyrics kinda suck. That and the closer are the only two I'm not in love with. Rest of this album rules
Right now, I'd say the only tracks that might be guarantees are Lookers, Thick As Thieves, Bad Catholics, After the Party, and The Bars since they've all been played live already. But my guess is as good as yours. I guess we'll have to wait until Friday night to see what full band songs they bust out at the record release show.
Friday will probably be more new than the headliner but I could be wrong. I really wish I could have planned something to go Friday. I'd kill to see them in a venue like that.
favorites so far are tellin' lies, lookers, midwestern states, the bars, your wild years everything is great though, hell of a record
My guess is Tellin' Lies and Your Wild Years in addition to the singles / songs they have been playing. Both should translate well live and have been getting a lot of early love from fans.
I'd love it if Your Wild Years got added to the set. Probably my second favorite song on the album so far.
My buddy accidentally sorted the tracks in reverse order somehow, so he just messaged me how he didn't like how slow the first three tracks are, and I was like "WHAT?!". When we figured out the problem it made much more sense. It's certainly a different experience with that sequencing lol
On this, the first tour after the album drops I bet the picks will be: Tellin Lies, Thick as Thieves, Lookers, Midwestern States, Charlies Army, one of Boy Blue/ The Bars, Bad Catholics, and After the Party. Though I hope Black Mass and Your Wild Years become set staples eventually
