Also paging Philly peeps like @sophos34, let's barge into their sold out show at Kung Fu Necktie on Friday.
I'm waiting until Friday to listen... I'll keep myself busy until then because your posts are a tease.
"You're the kind of girl that deserves the world, I'm just the kind of guy that promises the world" just straight up should not sound correct in any world but Greg has a knack for making that shit work on this album
Your Wild Years is everything I love about this band cranked up to 1000. Probably gonna be my new favorite song!
I don't think I'm gonna be able to make it, but I'm interested in going to their show at the Fillmore so maybe I'll see you there if you go!
Yeah, I'm not too familiar with the lyrics on that track yet, but that looks right. It's the part where the vocal melody is similar to what Billie Joe sings in "Letterbomb" during the "She said I can't take this place/I'm leaving it behind" part.
I know "Lookers" is old news at this point, but I only listened to it once leading up to the release of this album and I can't get enough of it now. The "Jersey Girl" reference would probably make the song for me by itself, but everything else about it is perfect too.
The closer is my least favorite for the same reasons I find their last two closers weak, but I love literally everything else. Every second.
I love lookers and I love the chorus about jersey girls but that's cus I'm from the OG jersey in the middle of the channel islands and whenever I sing along I always replace "the wonder bar" with "st james' bar"
Not particularly familiar with this band, but listened to this off the back of the singles and it's incredible, love the end of tellin lies, may go see them in london as it's all just so singalongable
Glad I'm not the only one who was getting some Hold Steady vibes. Some of these songs remind me so much, lyrically, of Boys and Girls in America.
This is the first album in a long time that I've sat doing nothing but listening, reading the lyrics and occasionally messaging my friends to tell them how dope this is.
Yeah, this one is real special. It actually surpassed my expectations, which is saying a lot because I'm one of those enthusiasts that too often expects stuff to be the second coming of sliced bread and then is surprised when it's not. Humming the melody to The Bars at work got me to write a little diddy that I like.
I 100% think the songs are there and are great. But Will Yip's production is holding me back here. I love that The Menzingers melodic guitar parts soared and their drums were always very clear, crisp and a big part of their band but I'm not sure that's here. At parts the guitars soar like I want them to but not always. The drums are a bit back there. I'm not a production person at all so I know some people might get on at me for this. I just have this issue with Will Yip on quite a few things (except Pale Horses and Peripheral Vision). Lyrically this is brilliant and these songs are going to kill live.
yeah this album is absolutely killer in terms of lyrics "In vibrant hues and subtle brush strokes of memory, The life I've painted I've sold for a quick twenty" so fuckin good
