On the topic of Green Day vibes, there are parts of "Boy Blue" that sound almost exactly like "Letterbomb." I am okay with this.
The fact that nobody is really slagging on any of these songs, but everybody seems to have different favorites/highlights has me stoked to give this a listen when I get home tonight. I mean, you know, more stoked than I was already...
I've been pretty apathetic towards music the last couple of years and haven't really sought out new music, just sticking to listening to what I knew and loved. After my first listen of this album, I feel like it's going to give me the kick in the ass I needed to start diving back into music, finding new bands, going to shows, etc. Phenomenal album. Can't wait to spin it for a long time. Early standouts for me so far are Tellin' Lies, Midwestern States, Boy Blue and Your Wild Years.
I like it hahah. but I totally understand that. I think the title track is still my favorite, but I definitely need some time to get acquainted. after Japandroids and Cloud Nothings, i'm not used to digesting a 13 track rock record
The fact that 11 of the 13 songs on OTIP mention drinking was an extra point of connection for me as a college freshman haha
Tbh that line doesn't even bother me as much as the melody that comes after it. You ever hear a melody and it sends weird chills down your spine but not in a good way? That's what happens after it and I'm not sure why. I just don't like that part of the song at all lol.
Idk, the la la la lobby and ca ca ca coffee line is soooo catchy. I could see how it could come off as cheesy but it's just so much fun. Livin Ain't Easy is a highlight for me
You and me both. Moving to New Jersey late last year makes this album all the more impactful for me — living near the Stone Pony and Wonder Bar really contextualize the album on a personal level.
im not worried about getting burnt out on it haha, i played the fuck out of rented world when it came out and i never got tired of it
Thank you! This was driving me crazy as I was listening to it and trying to remember which Green Day song it was. You're talking about this right? "I've been told there's no going home No room for you and me No empty seats in eternity I've been told no going home No song left to sing No second act to mortality"
im a pretty casual fan of these guys, liking like 1/3 or so of RW and probably half of OTIP, but man this one kicks ass. Along with the green day vibes, the story telling/lyrics/themes remind me so much of older Hold Steady albums.
